Junior Shay Lemke and Sophomore Camdyn Richter of the ACGC Chargers set the tone Monday night in Avoca, going on a 12-0 run against the AHSTW Vikings to open the game en route to a dominant 78-57 victory.

Cyclones head coach Adam Bendorf was pleased with his wrestlers Jesse Jens and Brody McKinley during the Riverside Wrestling Tournament Saturday.

Friday, in a tournament at Riverside High School, HCHS girls Junior wrestler Ivy Stevens made history winning the school’s first match when the team competed in their first event in a tournament that featured 24 schools.

24 hours after a big home victory Friday night over the Tri-Center Trojans, the IKM-Manning Wolves stepped foot onto the court against the Exira-EHK Spartans and dominated with a 84-67 victory.

Towards the end of the third quarter, Spartan Freshman Taryn Petersen launched a 3-pointer putting her team up 12 points en route to a 58-41 victory, the Spartans fourth win in a row after dropping their season opener to Woodbine.

The Cyclones overcame injuries to key players Friday night, but still came away with a 63-49 victory over the Denison Monarchs.
In the second quarter of Friday's home game against the Denison Monarchs, Senior Brehden Eggerss exited the game due to a hand injury, followed by Junior Jozef Reisz exiting in the fourth quarter due to a dislocated shoulder.

With a combination of senior leadership and a steller starting lineup, the HCHS girls basketball team cruised to their fifth consecutive win to open the season behind Seniors Erica Rust and Hannah Sonderman, and Junior Aubrey Schwieso.

In the fourth quarter with 5.5 seconds left, Junior Viking Luke Sternberg made an off balance shot, sealing a 49-48 AHSTW road victory, earning their first win of the season.
“Feels amazing to finally get that first win under our belt,” Sternberg said. “We played two tough teams to start and even tonight, and we’re capable of beating some solid opponents.”

In the first quarter, Senior Viking Saydi Paulsen launched a 3-point shot, putting the Vikings up 12-0 to start the night en route to a 41-31 victory for their third consecutive win.
“We’ve been really having to work as a team,” Paulsen said. “We’ve all been working really hard during practice and learning who’s doing what while trying to get better.”

In the second quarter of Tuesday’s road match, the HCHS boys basketball team got outscored 23-9, en route to an eventual 69-52 loss, putting them at 1-1 on the season.

Cyclone Junior Molly Swensen came away with 18 points leading the Cyclones to their 4th consecutive victory and first road win of the season over the Kuemper Catholic Knights, 56-41.
“I thought we got off to a good start for sure,” said Cyclone Head Coach Zach Klaassen. “We kind of came out of the gates right away. We hit a couple of early 3’s. Molly came out on fire right away and Hannah [Sonderman] hit one as well.”

New Cyclone Head Wrestling Coach Adam Bendorf was pleased with the start his team got off to opening their season at home in a tournament that featured nine schools, including Glenwood, East Union, Perry, Winterset, Denison-Schleswig, Logan-Magnolia, West Central Valley, and Audubon.

At the end of the  first quarter with the Exira-EHK boys basketball team turning their game into a runaway against the Boyer Valley Bulldogs, Senior Spartan Cash Emgarten capped off the early route with a slam dunk, putting his team up 29-10 and ending the quarter on a 13-0 Spartan run, eventually leading to a 84-31 win.

In the fourth quarter with the Exira-EHK girls basketball team up by seven points against the Boyer Valley Bulldogs, Spartan Sophomore Jaelynn Petersen came sprinting down court with the ball, made a shot and was fouled, making the extra point, putting her team up 46-36, en route to an eventual 57-49 victory for the Spartans first victory of the season.

In the second quarter of their season opener, Junior Cyclone Jozef Reisz hit an off balance jump shot at the buzzer to close out the first half with a 38-20 Cyclone lead en route to a dominant 63-39 victory over the Shenandoah Mustangs.
