Towards the end of the first quarter in Friday’s home game with the game tied at 12, Senior Cyclone Jason Erlemeier came down court launching a 3-point shot, followed by a mid-range jump shot, putting his team up 17-12 en route to a dominant 68-45 victory over the Creston Panthers.

At the end of the first half of Thursday’s home game against Denison, Junior Viking Luke Sternberg made a shot from 3-point range giving the Vikings a 34-19 lead en route to an eventual 63-56 victory, their 5th of the season.
Before the game started, Senior Viking Nick Denning was honored by the school for making his 91st start, a new school record. Denning has been starting games since his freshman season.

In the fourth quarter of Thursday’s home game against the Denison Monarchs, Senior Viking Delaney Goshorn made a mid-range jump shot to secure her 1000th career point.
“It means a lot,” Goshorn said. “I’ve put in a lot of time on my own with my parents at our shop. It’s really rewarding, and doing it at home, our last home game of my career means a lot.”

Senior Cyclone Franz Reisz led the way with 16 points in Tuesday’s 53-33 home win over the Atlantic Trojans, earning their 11th win of the season, and handing Atlantic their 14th loss.
“My teammates were passing it in, doing a really good job,” Reisz said. “Drawing the foul, getting it in, and it worked great.”

Towards the end of the third quarter in Tuesday’s home game, the HCHS girls basketball team went on a 13-2 run, followed by a 6-0, leading to a dominant 54-36 win over the Atlantic Trojans. With this win, the Cyclones conclude their regular season with a 17-3 record.

After falling Friday night on the road to the Lewis Central Titans by eight points, the HCHS girls basketball team came storming out of the gate Monday night at home against the Glenwood Rams starting the game on a 16-0 run en route to a 62-38 home win.

In the third quarter of Friday’s home game, Exira-EHK boys head basketball coach Tony Santisteban called a timeout with his team leading 46-33. When play resumed, the Spartans went on a 14-2 run, which led to a dominant 67-41 victory over the CAM Cougars earning their 15th win of the season.

In the third quarter of the Exira-EHK girls basketball game Friday night at home with the game tied at 30 points apiece against the CAM Cougars, the Cougar offense caught fire and erupted with a 10-0 run, leading to a 67-55 victory, and handing the Spartans their 6th loss.

Approaching the midway point of the third quarter with the Cyclones leading the Kuemper Catholic Knights by seven points, Knights head coach Sean Minnehan called a timeout, and when play resumed, the Knights offense caught fire going on a 15-0 run en route to an eventual 75-63 victory, handing the Cyclones their third consecutive loss and sixth on the season.

In the fourth quarter of Thursday’s home game with just under a minute remaining and the Cyclones hanging on to a 3-point lead, Senior Cyclone Hannah Sonderman stepped up to the free throw line, knocked down both shots, helping the Cyclones to a 55-49 win, and their seven consecutive victory.
“I knew we needed those, so I just slowed down, took a breath and reached up,” Sonderman said.

Senior Cyclone Erica Rust will be continuing her basketball career at Simpson College following the conclusion of her high school days.
“Since I was little, it’s been a dream to play college basketball,” Rust said. “To be able to make that happen is pretty exciting.”
With many options in front of her, Rust talked about what made her choose Simpson.

For the first time since Dec. 12, the AHSTW boys basketball team is back in the win column, snapping a 10-game losing streak Tuesday night at home against the St. Albert Falcons.

In the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s game with the AHSTW Vikings trailing by three points, Senior Saint Ella Klusman came down court and made back-to-back 3-point shots putting her team up nine points en route to an eventual 41-31 victory, snapping the Vikings 5-game win streak.

In a tight back-and-forth game that went to overtime, Senior Spartan Aiden Flathers was fouled, sending him to the free throw line where he made two buckets putting the Spartans up five points en route to a 66-55 victory.

In the first quarter of Monday’s home game with the Exira-EHK Spartans trailing 4-3, Freshman Riley Miller passed the ball to Senior Hannah Nelson who went for a layup, putting the Spartans up 5-4 that started an 11-2 run and lead to a 66-53 victory.
“I think all of us are really proud,” said Freshman Taryn Petersen. “Our girls played really well today. What we had to do was stop Charlie Pryor because she’s a great player.”
