With less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation and the Wolves trailing by one, Wolves Senior Ross Kusel received a rocket pass from teammate Lane Sams, who made a shot from 3-point range, putting his team up 61-59 and securing the victory.

It didn’t take long for Thursday’s home match against the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders to slip away from the IKM-Manning Wolves as the Crusaders opened the game with a 9-0 run in the first quarter.
Before the game, the Wolves 2008-09 team was in town getting honored for their state championship run.

With 0.9 seconds remaining in the game and the Cyclones leading 40-37, Senior Cyclone Quinn Koesters was fouled, sending him to the free throw line, where he made both shots, securing a 42-37 victory, giving the Cyclones their third consecutive win.
“There was a lot of grit,” Koesters said. “The team just had to come together. It was a hard-nosed battle, and we just had to be strong.”

With the Cyclones in an uphill battle trailing by four points to open the third quarter, it didn’t get any easier with the Lewis Central Titans going on a 12-2 run to open the second half, effectively winning the game 45-30, and handing the Cyclones their first loss of the season.

“It feels really good,” Reisz said. “I’ve always dreamed about playing football at the next level and to it for the state of Iowa is a pretty great feeling through the recruiting process. It’s a tough decision, but I feel really confident about my decision.”

In the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s game and the Cyclones trailing 44-43, Senior Cyclone Jason Erlemeier hit a key 3-pointer putting his team up 46-44 en route to a 54-47 victory.
“It feels really good going into the break, going forward to,” Erlemeier said. “They’re a good team, they fought hard and didn’t give up, but we didn’t either, and we got the W.”

In the first quarter approaching the 2-minute mark with the Cyclones trailing 4-3 to the Clarinda Cardinals, Junior Cyclone Aubrey Schwieso made a shot giving her team their first lead of the night that started a 10-0 run en route to a dominant 63-42 victory keeping them undefeated at 8-0 to start the season.

In the fourth quarter with less than two minutes to go in regulation, Cyclone Junior Jozef Reisz made a free throw, giving the Cyclones a 3-point lead, which was enough to sneak by in a 62-59 battle against the Red Oak Tigers.
"It was definitely a hard fought game of runs," said Cyclone Head Coach Mitch Osborn. "Our guys kept their poise and composure, and we fought back, and held on."

Senior Erica Rust led the way Friday night against the Red Oak Tigers scoring 26 points with seven rebounds en route to a 86-41 victory for their 7th consecutive win to open the season.

Cyclone Head Wrestling Coach Adam Bendorf honored HCHS Seniors Tytan Frohlich, Brayton Cooper, and Tyrel Jacobson for their contributions to the program Thursday night during a triangular with Hawkeye Ten opponents, Clarinda and Shenandoah.

HCHS Senior Isabelle Gaul said she’s ‘super excited’ to have signed a Letter of Intent to go dance at Southwestern Community College following the conclusion of her high school days.
“After this first semester, I’m kind of ready to be done just because I’m excited to get to college, and continue my dancing career,” Gaul said.
Gaul talked about what led to her choosing Southwestern Community College, beyond dancing.

The HCHS boys basketball team struggled offensively Tuesday night on the road against the Glenwood Rams, dropping the match 56-46 for its second loss of the season.

Senior Cyclone Erica Rust led the way with 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks Tuesday night during a dominant 66-44 win at Glenwood as the Cyclones earned their sixth win to open its season.

In the fourth quarter of Tuesday’s game, Sophomore Viking Collin Harder stole a pass and rushed down court, scoring a layup to extend his team’s lead by 11 points en route to a 77-68 Vikings win.

Viking Senior Delaney Goshorn scored 29 points in a 62-26 bounce back win over Missouri Valley Tuesday night at home.
“They don’t have a lot of size down low,” Goshorn said. “Being able to find the gaps there, and the 15-footers were falling for me tonight.”
