Tuesday night, the HCHS volleyball team’s season came to an end when they lost three straight sets to the Red Oak Tigers in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament Game.
“We told them that we had a lot of opportunities to win that match, and unfortunately it didn’t end up that way,” said Cyclone Head Coach Elle Crees. “We will always be very proud of them, and thanked our seniors for all they have given the program the last four years.”

The Cyclones are coming off an impressive 27-6 home win over at the Atlantic Trojans and look to make it two in a row as they head to Knoxville Friday night to take on the Panthers with multiple injured players.

In set four of the Class 2A Region 3 volleyball tournament game, a shot was deflected out of bounds off Junior Viking Grayson Gettler, ending the Vikings season at the hands of the Underwood Eagles. The Vikings lost the first two sets 25-17 and 25-16, won set three 25-19, but dropped set four 26-24.

After a tough 39-20 road loss to the Nevada Cubs last Friday, despite being shorthanded once again, the Cyclones returned home to Merrill Field to battle the Atlantic Trojans and won in dominant fashion, 27-6.

Despite missing its top runner, Cyclone Junior Lindsey Sonderman, in the Hawkeye Ten Cross Country Championships in Glenwood, the Cyclones still ran strong with multiple athletes on the boys and girls side performing well.

The Harlan Community Middle School girls Cross Country team just wrapped up a stellar season taking home first place in every event they competed in.

In set three of their volleyball match Tuesday night against the 29-6 Kuemper Catholic Knights, Senior Knight Kaci Peter hit a shot that deflected off Senior Cyclone Sammie Ineson, handing the Cyclones their seventh consecutive loss.
Before the game, Ineson, Kami Stork, Erica Rust, and Ava Monson were honored for their contributions to the program.

After a tough 39-20 loss in which the Cyclones suffered multiple injuries, they are excited to return home to Merrill Field in front of their fanbase Friday night to take on the 3-4 Atlantic Trojans.
“Merrill Field is always a special place to play and we’re looking forward to it, no doubt,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “We’re excited to get back out there and get some wrongs righted.”

Former HCHS kicker and current Dordt University freshman Stephen Leinen was recently named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the week award.
“It feels great,” Leinen said. “A really big confidence booster as well.”

The pre-game coin toss had an ominous feel to it as two of Harlan’s star players, Cade Sears and Franz Reisz, made their way to mid-field on crutches.

In set three of Thursday’s volleyball match, Sophomore Bulldog Madison Kelley tipped the ball over the net effectively securing the match win and victory defeating the IKM-Manning Wolves in three consecutive sets by scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-17.
“Riverside’s hitters did a nice job of swinging, and also roll shooting, which we could incorporate more of,” said Wolves Head Coach McKaylie Croghan.

The IKM-Manning Wolves and Exira-EHK performed strong Thursday at the Boyer Valley Invitational with six athletes finishing in the top ten overall.
As a team, the IKM-Manning girls finished in first place with 43 points, three ahead of Boyer Valley, with the Spartans taking fourth place with 69 points. The boys took an overall finish of second place with 48 points, just ten behind the winner, MVAOCOU.

After being up 2-0 in their volleyball match against St. Albert, the Cyclones dropped the next three sets by scores of 25-10, 25-14, and 15-13, with the final point of the night from Sophomore Molly Wise who knocked the ball over the net, which was deflected off Sophomore Cyclone Emercyn Reischl handing the Cyclones its second loss of the night.

After a dominant 49-7 victory over the Perry Bluejays Friday night at home, the Cyclones will head out on the road and turn their attention to the Nevada Cubs in a contest that may determine a playoff berth for HCHS.
The Cubs come in with a 5-1 record with their most recent victory coming Friday night against the Knoxville Panthers where they won 49-0.

Tuesday night, in set five of their volleyball match, AHSTW Senior Lauren Yates knocked a shot over the net that effectively secured the victory 15-13 and won their 7th match of the season beating the Underwood Eagles.
