HCHS Girls
The HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team earned a fourth place finish at the Lewis Central Co-Ed Track event Wednesday with 64.5 points, finishing 133.5 points behind the winner, Waukee NW.
“This was a huge meet with great competition,” said Cyclone Head Coach Jenny Hamilton. “Overall, a very positive meet for us. We’re getting better every time out, and that’s the most important thing.”

It was a tough day at the courts for the HCHS Cyclones boys tennis team losing 9-0 to the Shenandoah Mustangs.
“My message was that we are continuing to improve,” said Cyclone Co-Head Coach Michael Rueschenberg. “Sometimes the scores might not always reflect that, but both Coach [Dillon] Stane and I can see improvements from the beginning of the season until now.”

After a tough 2-0 Tuesday road loss to the Treynor Cardinals, the HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team returned home to battle the Missouri Valley Lady Reds and won 3-2, courtesy of all three goals coming from Junior Cyclone Kayla Anderson.
“It feels so good,” Anderson said. “Our passing is coming together and we’re running through corners a lot better, so that makes me happier.”

IKM-Manning Girls
Monday in Denison, the IKM-Manning Wolves girls track and field team earned themselves a 5th place finish with 64 points, 77.5 points behind the winner, Cherokee Washington.
“Overall, the girls placed 5th, which we thought was pretty good for missing 7 runners due to an FFA conflict,” said Wolves Head Coach Emma Konkler-Petersen.

Monday, the HCHS boys tennis team fell to 0-6 on the season after a hard fought battle with the Kuemper Catholic Knights who won in dominant fashion 9-0.

It didn’t take for the HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team to put away the Logan-Magnolia Panthers, as with just over two minutes into the action, Sophomore Cyclone Carly Torneten scored the first goal, giving the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead en route to a dominant 6-0 win, their third in a row, and their fourth in their last five games.

AVOCA - Junior Viking Kayden Baxter was the star of the game during Senior Night Friday night in Avoca against the Logan-Magnolia Panthers scoring three goals, helping lead his team to a 4-1 victory, their first of the season.
“Kayden, this guy is a hustler,” said Viking Head Coach Michael Mertz. “Every single time, he gets back on side and he is hustling for every ball, he doesn’t give up, and that’s something that we need.”

AVOCA - It didn’t take long for the Logan-Magnolia Panthers to set the tone Friday night against the AHSTW Vikings girls soccer team as Junior Panther Brooklyn Lally scored in the first two minutes, which would be all the Panthers would need to earn a 3-0 win, handing the Vikings their 5th loss.

After a 3rd place finish at the Ken Carstens Invitational, the HCHS Cyclones boys track and field returned to action less than 48 hours later competing in the 8th Annual Council Bluffs Boys Track Invitational taking a 7th place finish with 50 points, 81 points behind Southeast Polk who won the event with 131 points.

The AHSTW Vikings girls track and field team earned a 7th place finish out of 11 teams with 50 points, tied with Woodbine, and 57 points behind the winner St. Albert.
“I thought that the girls competed very well yesterday in adverse conditions,” said Viking Head Coach Traye Pelzer. “ Our middle distance groups had to really face the brunt of the windy day, and I think they handled it well.”

The HCHS Cyclones boys track and field team competed in the Ken Carstens Invitational Tuesday night at home, finishing in third place with 96 points, just 2.5 points behind Atlantic who finished second, and seven points behind Underwood who won with 104 points.

The HCHS Cyclones girls tennis team battled with the Lewis Central Titans Tuesday at home and lost 8-1, but one individual earned her first win of the season in a match that last over an hour.

The HCHS Cyclones boys tennis team faced an uphill battle against the Council Bluffs Jefferson Yellow Jackets Monday at home, losing 9-0.
“The weather presented itself with some new challenges for some of our kids playing at the high school, and I thought while we didn't react to the challenges as well as we could have, we still had some kids step up and continue to learn,” said Cyclone Head Coach Dillon Stane.

Cyclone Junior Aubrey Schwieso set the tone Monday at Merrill Field, going for three goals against the Kuemper Catholic Knights, helping lead her team to a 5-1 victory for their second win of the season.
“Kayla [Anderson] did a great job of getting the ball to her [Schwieso],” said Cyclone Head Coach Jared Boysen. “Getting it across was something that we were really trying to work on, and she was there to finish on those three.”

The HCHS Cyclones girls golf team struggled Monday afternoon at the Harlan Golf & Country Club, taking a 225-243 loss to the Lewis Central Titans in their season opener.
“Some things got in the way,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “We let some emotion kind of influence some shots and some poor decision making and we let the scoring kind of get inflated on us a little bit.”
