With under 20 minutes remaining in Friday’s home game against the Raiders, Cyclone Sophomore Carly Torneten came sprinting down field and with Sophomore Raider goalkeeper Denae Thayer coming out too far from the net, Torneten was able to sneak in her second goal of the night, leading the Cyclone to a 3-1 victory effectively snapping a 4-game losing streak.

AHSTW Senior Delaney Goshorn will be rowing for Kansas State University following the conclusion of her high school days.
“I’m really excited,” Goshorn said. “I never thought I’d have the opportunity to play sports at the D1 level. I fell in love with the campus and I was content with not continuing my academic career, but the opportunity arose and how couldn’t I take it?”

AHSTW Senior Makenzie Pauley will be joining the dance team at Iowa Western CC following the conclusion of her high school days.

HCHS Girls
With the regular season winding down and the state qualifying meet on the horizon, the HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team earned a fifth place finish with 57.33 points among 11 teams at the Hawkeye-10 Championships in Shenandoah.

IKM-Manning
Wednesday the IKM-Manning Wolves girls track and field team competed at the Western Iowa Championships with the girls taking 31 points, finishing ninth, but battled some sickness and injury along the way.

After a tough 6-0 loss to Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln Monday night on the road, the HCHS Cyclones returned home to Merrill Field to take on the Carroll Tigers and less than 10 minutes into the game, Senior Cyclone Elmer Argueta scored his first goal of the night, which would be all the Cyclones would need en route to a 4-0 victory.

HCHS Girls
Monday at Atlantic High School, the HCHS Cyclones girls track and field team finished in fifth place with 61 points, 78 points behind Glenwood, who won the event with 139 points.
“Collectively, this was our best meet of the season, and we are so happy with the girls efforts,” said Cyclone Head Coach Jenny Hamilton.

Monday at the Woodbine Athletic Complex, the Exira-EHK Spartans boys track and field team competed at the Rolling Valley Conference Championships taking home a third place finish with 72 points, just five behind Coon Rapids-Bayard and three ahead of CAM.

In their final tune-up before the Drake Relays, the HCHS Cyclones boys track and field team finished eighth at the Wildcat Relays at Carlisle High School with 76 points, finishing 64 points behind Indianola, who won the event with 140 points.

Last Tuesday, the HCHS Cyclones competed in the Lady Red Relays, taking home multiple personal records.
“We had several PRs, including Carleigh [Goshorn] in the 100, Taylor [Bieker] in the 800, and Brylee [Schechinger], Allie [Anderson], and Lauren [Wingert] in the 1500.”

IKM-Manning Girls
Tuesday night, the IKM-Manning Wolves girls track and field team finished strong at the Bob Clark Relays taking fourth place with 89 points, finishing 25 points behind the winner Tri-Center.

Despite windy conditions, the HCHS Cyclones girls tennis team was able to battle through against the Atlantic Trojans coming away with a 5-4 victory.
“I was really proud of how the girls battled in the wind,” said Cyclone Head Coach Michael Rueschenberg. “It was really tough conditions and they fought through it. We had a couple matches that we found ourselves down in and fought back to earn the win.”

The HCHS Cyclones girls golf team competed in a triangular Monday at the Harlan Golf & Country Club, finishing with 206 strokes, four behind Red Oak, who won the event with 202, and 10 ahead of Shenandoah who came in third place with 216.
“At home, the goal is to win,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “But we’re always look for improvements, and we definitely saw that in a couple of different places.”

With less than 10 minutes remaining in the first half of Monday’s game and the Cyclones leading 1-0, Junior Aubrey Schwieso scored three goals all within a seven minute stretch putting her team up 4-0, en route to a 5-1 win.

Friday at home, the HCHS Cyclones boys and girls tennis team played a co-ed match with St. Albert, with the boys losing 9-0 and the girls losing 7-2.
