Wolves drop game via mercy rule

In the bottom of the 4th inning of Tuesday’s softball match against the #4 ranked Missouri Valley Lady Reds, the IKM-Manning Wolves only trailed by four runs until the Lady Reds busted the game open dropping a 6-spot, starting with a 3-run home run off the bat of Junior Audrie Kohl, followed shortly after by an RBI triple from Grace Herman to score Paige Bell, which would later be capped off with a 2-run single from Carlyn Christensen.

First inning proves costly for Vikings

AHSTW Vikings eighth grader Etta Partlow struggled out of the gate Friday night allowing seven runs to the Riverside Bulldogs, which proved to be the difference in the game as the Vikings would lose their first game of the season 10-4.

Cyclones mauled by Tigers at home

It didn’t take long for the ADM Tigers to put away the HCHS Cyclones softball team as they opened the game dropping an 8-spot with contributions from Kaylee Smith, who had two triples and Aleah Johnson who had a home run with six runs batted in throughout the night leading them to a 15-2 victory.

Sorfonden’s single breaks tie to earn 4th win

In the bottom of the 6th inning of Thursday’s game at Jim Goeser Field, and the game tied at three, Senior Cyclone Matthew Sorfonden connected for a base hit, breaking the tie to drive home Keegan Ring after Ring came in to courtesy run for Weston Reisz. The Cyclones would add another run on a sacrifice fly by Quinn Koesters to score Landen Kaufman earning a 5-3 victory over the ADM Tigers.

Cyclones season ended by Cardinals, 2-0

The phrase "with little room for error" is commonly uttered in sports, and that proved to be true Wednesday night in Treynor, as the Cardinals ended the HCHS Cyclones girls soccer season shutting them out 2-0 to stamp their ticket to the Regional Final Game against the Underwood Eagles.

Wolves gear up for new softball season

After struggling in their 2023 season going 4-22, the IKM-Manning Wolves softball team has more girls on the team and they’re ready to get back to work.
“I’m just excited to get on the field and see what we’ve got,” said Senior Ella Richards. “We have a lot of girls out, so it’ll be fun.”

Cyclones eliminated in 2A-8 Semifinal by Tigers, 2-1

With just over three and a half minutes remaining in regulation and the game tied at one, it looked like the Carroll Tigers and the HCHS Cyclones were headed into overtime, but Senior Tiger Chase Ragaller scored a goal, his second of the night, leading his team to a 2-1 victory ending the Cyclones soccer season.

Cyclones break records at state meet

The HCHS Cyclones boys track and field may not have ended up on the podium as a team, but did get some individuals on the podium, including Cade Sears in the 100 and 200 meter dash, along with the 4x100 meter relay team which featured Sears, Brehden Eggerss, Matthew Sorfonden, and Lukas Francis taking 1st place and earning a state record time with 41.60 at the state track meet in Des Moines at Drake Stadium, edging out ADM who finished with 41

Cyclones advance to second round of Regional Play

In the second half of Wednesday’s First Round Regional Tournament Game at Merrill Field with the HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team leading 2-1 against the Kuemper Catholic Knights, Sophomore Cyclone Carly Torneten was able to easily knock in a goal with Knights goalkeeper Brianna Wittrock coming out and away from the net little too far. The Cyclones would hang on for a 3-1 win advancing to the second round.

Cyclones open season with doubleheader sweep of Stars

The HCHS Cyclones baseball team won both games of their doubleheader against the Sioux City Stars by scores of 13-4 and 19-5, a far cry from last year’s doubleheader loss to the Stars to open the season.

Lady Vikings advance to next round with OT victory

With just over two minutes remaining in regulation, it looked like the AHSTW Vikings girls soccer team may be headed home early, but Junior Viking Claire Mertz saved the day when she kicked the ball from over 20 feet out, as it just barely went out of reach of Sophomore Rams goalkeeper Lucy Vander Linden to tie the game at three goals apiece. The Vikings would later win in overtime 4-3 for their second win of the season.

Cyclones set multiple records at SQM in Atlantic

Cyclone Junior Lindsey Sonderman set the tone for her team Thursday night at the state qualifying meet in Atlantic qualifying for the 1500 and 3000m run, along with the distance medley team that also featured Kami Stork, Samantha Ineson, and Aubree Wegner.

Cyclones win golf invitational

Thursday, the HCHS Cyclones girls golf team won the IKM-Manning Wolves Invitational with 209 strokes, 15 less than IKM-Manning with 224, and 28 less than Boyer Valley with 237.
“It was kind of a tough night to start,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “It was real windy. Probably a 30-mph wind up there on the hill. We had to make some adjustments with wind, which is tough to do.”

Cyclones softball opens new season on road

A new season of HCHS Cyclone softball is set to get underway May 20 at 7:30 p.m. on the road against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs.
“We are very excited to get going,” said Cyclone Head Coach Tarah Devlin-Lawler. “Getting in the groove of having games, not just having practices, and going out and competing this year.”

Cyclones beat Vikings on Senior Night, 4-1

After struggling to score a goal with many open looks, Senior Cyclone Ian Shelton was able to knock in his first goal of the game, putting his team up 4-1 to earn their fifth win of the season.

Cyclones earn eighth win of the season over Vikings

After missing a few games, Cyclone Junior Aubrey Schwieso returned to the lineup Tuesday at home against the AHSTW Vikings, scoring three goals to help lead the HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team to a 7-1 victory.
