Second inning comes back to haunt Wolves

With two outs in the top of the second inning of Monday’s home game, it looked like IKM-Manning Senior Ella Richards was going to get out of the inning without allowing a run, until a popup was dropped by shortstop Anna Stangl, which started a 5-run rally that lead to a 9-3 Panthers win.

Cyclones drop 6-spot in 7th to win game

After trailing 3-0 a majority of the Thursday’s road game against the Kuemper Catholic Knights, the HCHS Cyclones baseball team found the scoreboard late in the game coming away with a 6-spot, which would be enough to win the game 6-3.
“We put together a bunch of good at bats and took what they gave us,” said Cyclone Head Coach Heath Stein. “They ended up giving us quite a few runs and ultimately the ballgame.”

2007 HCHS graduate, 2011 Buena Vista University graduate, and current Underwood Eagles Boys Head Basketball Coach Brad Blum credits his HCHS coaches for all his success that led to him being inducted into the Buena Vista Athletics Hall of Fame.

Wolves lose by 21 to #7 ranked Lady Reds

It didn’t take long for the Missouri Valley Lady Reds to put away Thursday’s softball game against the IKM-Manning Wolves starting with scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning, seven runs in the second, and six more in the third, earning a 22-1 win in three innings via the mercy rule, handing the Wolves their 16th loss.

9-run third inning back breaker for Wolves

In the top of the third inning during Tuesday’s home softball match with the game tied at one run apiece, Junior Trojan Kaitlin Kozeal connected at the plate for an RBI single which started a 9-run inning, leading the Trojans to a 16-5 win over the IKM-Manning Wolves, handing them their 10th consecutive loss.

Cyclones get swept in home doubleheader

The HCHS Cyclones softball team struggled to get their bats going Monday night at home against the Glenwood Rams, losing both of their games via the mercy rule 12-0 and 11-0.
“The girls put in a good effort competing,” said Cyclone Head Coach Tarah Devlin-Lawler. “We saw some scenarios tonight that we’ve only seen at practice. Being able to adjust and make plays on those scenarios is going to be a key thing for us moving forward.”

Cyclones struggle in doubleheader with Rams

In both games of a doubleheader Monday night at home, the later innings proved costly for the HCHS Cyclones baseball team, as they dropped game one 16-7 and game two 10-7.
“It’s a long season with long weeks where we’ll have to get deeper into our staff,” said Cyclone Head Coach Heath Stein. “Up until this point in the season, our starting pitching has been so good that we haven’t used a ton of guys.”

Cyclones cruise to 10th victory over the Falcons

With one out in the top of the seventh inning with the HCHS Cyclones baseball team up 11-2, a flyball was hit to Cyclone Senior Cade Sears in centerfield, where he made the catch, and threw out Junior Falcon Owen Marshall at home plate attempting to tag up from third base for the final out of the game.

Cyclones fall to Saintes on Senior Night

Senior Saint Alexis Narmi set the tone Thursday night against the HCHS Cyclones softball team, keeping them off the scoreboard and giving up just three hits with three strikeouts, leading her team to an 11-0 win, handing the Cyclones their 12th loss.
Prior to the game, Seniors Haylee Ernst, Lilyana Albertsen, Teya Frohlich, and Emily Feser were honored for their contributions to the program.

Reginato reflects on time in United States

2024 IKM-Manning graduate and multi-sport athlete Emma Reginato is returning to Italy after spending her senior year in Iowa.
“I think I’ll remember the teachers,” Reginato said. “They were always kind and nice with me. They always tried to help me whenever I had difficult moments, and then the sports I played, all the practices that we did and the fun we had.”

Wolves fall to Wheelers on the road

The struggles continue for the IKM-Manning Wolves, dropping Tuesday’s game to the Audubon Wheelers 8-0 for their fifth loss in a row.
Ella Richards got the ball for the Wolves, pitching six innings, striking out two Wheeler batters, but ran into some trouble in the second and fifth inning, giving up three runs in each of those innings.

Cyclones softball earns first win of the season

For the first time in their 2024 campaign, the HCHS Cyclones softball team earned a win Monday night at home against the Kuemper Catholic Knights 9-3.
“It’s a great thing,” said Cyclone Head Coach Tarah Devlin-Lawler. “We finally had all of the pieces come together and the girls had a great game, making great plays, and everyone had a part no matter where they were playing and we all came together as a team.”

Sixth inning rally leads Cyclones to victory

In the bottom of the sixth inning trailing 4-0, Senior Cyclone Quinn Koesters opened the inning with a leadoff single, which was followed by a 2-run home run over the left field fence off the bat of Brett Heese, which started a 6-run rally, leading the Cyclones to a 6-4 victory over the Kuemper Catholic Knights.

Wolves struggle to get bats going in road loss

In the bottom of the 4th inning with an already sizeable lead, eighth grader Kaitlyn Evans launched a 2-run home run to put the Logan-Magnolia Panthers up 10-0, which gave the Panthers the victory via the mercy rule. Sophomore Campbell Chase returned to the field in the top of the 5th inning, not giving up any runs, securing the final three outs for the win.

Cyclones drop shortened game to Monarchs

Due to thunder and rain in the area, the HCHS Cyclones baseball team was only able to play five innings of Thursday’s home game against the Denison Monarchs losing 5-4.
Senior Brock Lemrick took the mound to start the night for the Cyclones going four innings, giving up five runs on eight hits, while walking three batters and striking out three.

Cyclones win close 3-2 battle at home with Titans

In the bottom of the sixth inning with the HCHS Cyclones baseball team leading 2-1, the Cyclones had runners on the corners and attempted a rare double steal, which allowed Cyclone Junior Landen Kaufman to come in to score, putting them ahead 3-1 at the time. The Titans would score one more run in the top of the 7th, but the Cyclone hung on for a 3-2 win.
