    ELK HORN -- Gary Lee Parkhurst, 75, Elk Horn, died October 19 at the Salem Lutheran Home.    A family-led graveside service was held Thursday, Oct. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Kirkman.  Visitation was Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.    Parkhurst is survived by brothers Charles Parkhurst of Harlan and Don (Robin) Parkhurst of Storm Lake; and sister Marietta (Rick) Gaul of Earling.

    PANAMA -- Edwin Schaben, 87, formerly of Panama, died Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.    Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 17 from 9-11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan.  Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be at Sts.

    DENISON -- Ervin Pauley, 91, Denison, died October 11 at his home.    A service for immediate family only was held Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Pauley Jones Pfannebecker Funeral Home with burial in the Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.    Pauley is survived by his wife, Thelma (Lickteig) Pauley of Denison; sons J.R.

    HARLAN -- Bernice E. Ehlers, 98, Harlan, died October 9 at Elm Crest Assisted Living.    A private family graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Minden Cemetery.    Ehlers is survived by nephew Roger (Brenda) Dollen of Avoca and niece Darla (Randy) Mills of Houston, TX.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca is in charge of arrangements.

    ASHLAND, NE -- Diane Garrison, 63, Ashland, NE, died October 8 at her home.    A wake/funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Graceland Cemetery at Avoca.  Visitation is Thursday from 2-4 p.m.

    CLEVELAND, GA -- Scott Wallace Backhaus, 41, Cleveland, GA, formerly of Manilla, died Friday, Aug. 28 in Cleveland.    A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 from 4-7 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Kent Morgan, 63, Harlan, died Tuesday, Sept. 29 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Harlan with burial following at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Lincoln Township, rural Harlan.  Visitation is Friday, Oct. 2 from 5-8 p.m.

    DES MOINES -- Harriet Jane Knudsen Nielsen, 88, Des Moines, formerly of Audubon County, died recently at Azria Health Park Place Nursing Home.    No services are planned, but a celebration of life will be held Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.

    OMAHA, NE -- Gary L. Anderson, 74, Omaha, NE, formerly of Harlan, died September 28.    Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with interment in the Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation is Friday, Oct. 2 from 5-7 p.m. at West Center Chapel with a vigil service at 7 p.m.    Anderson is survived by his wife, Jeanne M.; sons Dr. Gary L. Anderson, Jr. and John N.

    SHELBY -- Ronald Dean Goodside, 66, Shelby, died Sunday, Sept.

    DUNLAP -- Robert Charles Koesters, 78, Dunlap, died September 18 at the Denison Care Center.    A memorial Mass will be held Friday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. at St.

    HARLAN -- Jeffrey McEvoy, 58, Harlan, died September 6.    Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with burial in the Bethany Cemetery in Kimballton.  Visitation is Saturday from 9-11 a.m.

    DEFIANCE -- Richard Mulligan, 74, Defiance, died September 18 at his home.    Services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance with burial in the Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance.  A rosary was held Monday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. at the church.  Visitation was Monday from 5-8 p.m.
