WALNUT -- Larry Shepherd, 84, Walnut, died Wednesday, April 4 at Good Samaritan Care Center in Villisca.    A celebration of life visitation with family will be held Saturday, April 14 from 2-4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Walnut.  A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter.    Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda is in charge of arrangements. 

    EARLING -- Nancy Pauley, 80, Earling, died April 4 at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling.    Services were held Monday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portsmouth with burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portsmouth at a later date.    Pauley is survived by her husband, Lloyd Pauley, of Portsmouth; daughters Debra (George) Martens of Shelby, Deanne (Edward III) Idar of Durango, CO and Christine M.

    ELK HORN -- Timothy L. Hartvigsen, 61, Elk Horn, died April 4 at at Myrtue Medical Center.    Services will be held Monday, April 9 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial at a later date.  Visitation is Monday from 9-11 a.m.

    ALTOONA -- Phyllis E. Evans, 91, Altoona, formerly of Shelby, died Friday, March 30 in Altoona.    A private graveside service and burial of ashes will be held at the Shelby Cemetery.    Evans is survived by sons LeRoy (Ella) Evans of Ankeny and LaVerne (Linda) Evans of Walnut; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.    Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

    CLARINDA -- Michael A. Assmann, 89, Clarinda, died April 2 at Clarinda Regional Health Center.    Services will be held Friday, April 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling.  A wake service was held Thursday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Thursday from 5-7 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Arlene Mae Christensen, 90, Harlan, died April 2 at Elm Crest Assisted Living.    Services were held Thursday, April 5 at 2 p.m.

    HARLAN – Leslie “Les” Portwood, 94, Harlan, formerly of Boone and Clear Lake, died Wednesday, March 21 at the Avoca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Avoca.    Services will be held at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone on Friday, April 27 at 11 a.m.

    LINCOLN, NE -- Mary Jane “MJ” Broomfield, 67, Lincoln, NE, died March 28 at her home.    Services will be held Friday, April 6 at 2 p.m.

    COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Graham Gould, 77, Council Bluffs, died March 24 at his home.    Services will be held Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  A Masonic Service will be held Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.    Gould is survived by cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.
 

    WOODBINE – Rosemary H. Koppold, 86, Woodbine, died March 29 at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine.    Services are pending at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Homes and Crematory in Council Bluffs.

    HARLAN -- Lawrence “Larry” Joseph Bissen, 68, Harlan, died March 24 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital.    Services will be held Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance with burial at a later date.  Family will greet friends Friday, March 30 from 4-7:30 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan and Saturday from 10-11 a.m.

    ATLANTIC -- Don M. Nielsen, 84, Atlantic, died Monday, March 26 in Atlantic.    Services will be held Saturday, March 31 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with burial of ashes in the Jacksonville Cemetery.  Family will greet friends Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the church.    Nielsen is survived by sons Pastor Phillip (DeAnn) Nielsen of Kirkman and Mark (Amy) Nielsen of St.

    HARLAN -- Frances L. Justice, 90, Harlan, died March 23 at Elm Crest Retirement Community.    Services will be held Tuesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin.  Visitation is Tuesday from 1-2 p.m.
