It seemed like the Cyclones had a victory over the Lewis Central Titans, but with only one out remaining in the game and down by a run, Lewis Central rallied and beat the Cyclones, 11-6.
Throughout the game, the Cyclones rallied as sophomore Quinn Koesters had three hits and drove in two runs. Junior Stephen Leinen also had a multi-hit game and drove in two runs as well, but in the end, it didn’t go in the Cyclones favor.

Tuesday night on the road, the HCHS varsity baseball team comfortably swept a doubleheader against the Creston Panthers winning the first game, 10-4, and taking the second game, 5-1.
“They battled us very well,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “Seems like with us, it just takes one guy to kind of break that seal and then everybody kind of starts hitting.”

Tuesday night on the road, the HCHS varsity softball team played a doubleheader against the Creston Panthers and won the first game, 7-5, but dropped the second game, 6-2.
During game one of the doubleheader, the Cyclones scored four runs in the second inning and three in the third inning.

After giving up 11 runs in the first inning, it was a long Friday night on the road as the HCHS varsity baseball team lost 12-0 via the mercy rule to the Bishop Heelan Crusaders.
“Cael [Goshorn] wasn’t throwing the ball bad,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “He was just a little bit up in the zone. They were putting good swings on the ball that he left up and it just kind of snowballed on him.”

Saturday at Winterset High School, the HCHS softball team played three games, losing two, but getting their first win over the Earlham Cardinals, 5-3.
“It was great to get that first win, but I think it was even better that the girls were able to connect with the ball and also make some plays defensively,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer.

Thursday night, the HCHS softball team played their first game of the season at home and lost via the mercy rule to the ADM Tigers, 11-0.
“I have made it very clear to these girls that the games we have this week is a very tough beginning of the season,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer. “We have nine players on that field that have never played next to each other.”

Josh Kenkel, a graduate of HCHS signed a letter of intent to go trap shoot for Iowa Central Community College.
“Trap shooting has been a big part of my life and being able to continue my trap shooting journey is something I am really looking forward to,” Kenkel said. “I am excited to see what comes forth in the future with my much appreciated opportunity to be a part of the Iowa Central trap shooting team.”

In the top of the seventh inning, the game was on the line for the Cyclones as the tying run for the ADM Tigers was standing on third base with two outs, but right fielder Cael Goshorn made a nice play on a line drive and the Cyclones went on to win 6-5.

What started in 7th grade came full circle when HCHS senior Katie Burchett signed a letter of intent to go trap shoot for Iowa Central Community College.
“It kind of makes me proud of myself that I can do this for so long and be rewarded to go to college to do it,” Burchett said. “It shows that I’m good enough to do that.”
Burchett developed a passion for shooting at a young age and has stuck with it ever since it began.

It wasn’t going to be easy taking on the 15-2 Treynor Cardinals on their field, but following their seniors, the AHSTW soccer team thought they had a good chance. Unfortunately, they came up short and they lost 8-2 in the playoff battle.

The HCHS varsity softball team opened up their season Monday on the road against the Dallas Center-Grimes Mustangs and lost 10-0.
“DCG has a great program, so we knew it was going to be a challenge right out of the gate,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer. “The girls never hung their heads.”
Throughout the game, the Cyclones had just three hits on the night, including two from junior Madison Kjergaard.

The HCHS boys and girls varsity track and field teams shined brightly in front of 15,000 screaming fans at the track and field state championships in Des Moines over the course of three days.
Senior Kaia Bieker participated in multiple events and even took home a medal for her efforts in the 800m event.

Friday night, the HCHS boys varsity baseball team took on the LeMars Bulldogs and won to push their record to 3-0 to start the season.
“It was a nice night,” said HCHS Head Baseball Coach Heath Stein. “Beautiful Friday night for us to play. A lot of the guys were pretty hyped up to be at home. We had a pretty good crowd.”
Stein credited a few players on his roster for their approach when taking at bats against the Bulldogs.

Thursday night at Merrill Field, the HCHS boys varsity soccer team battled the Winterset Huskies in a playoff game, but were eliminated in a shootout as the Huskies went on to win 3-2.
“As we went along, we learned how to play with each other and at the end, we had a six-game win streak coming into here and we took it to penalty kicks and we just didn’t have enough,” said HCHS Head Soccer Coach Dave Voge.

Former Harlan softball player Katie Voth recently was inducted into the Wayne State Athletic Hall of Fame after a stellar collegiate softball career.
