Teagon Kasperbauer, a senior at Harlan Community High School and stellar quarterback has made history for Harlan’s football program.
Last Friday, when the Cyclones were on the road in a match against the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors, Kasperbauer threw for 186 yards and surpassed Joel Osborn’s record of 6,382 passing yards, giving him sole possession of first place.

Thursday at home, The Exira-EHK varsity volleyball team had a rough night against the CAM Cougars, dropping all three matches. With the losses, it moves their overall record to 4-9 on the season.
The students of Exira-EHK high school came out energetic as they were rocking Hawaiian shirts and swim gear hoping to see their Spartans get some wins over CAM.

Tuesday in Des Moines, the HCHS swim team competed in the Des Moines East Dual in which two other teams went against them, Hoover and Des Moines East. Head Coach Stephenie Dale was pleased with the results of the meet.

Elaina Vrchoticky, a senior at HCHS has signed a Letter of Intent to go swimming at Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill. following the conclusion of her high school days.

With a large crowd in attendance, along with several students at the AHSTW Vikings gymnasium cheering enthusiastically, the varsity volleyball team was hoping to come out and take it to the Treynor Cardinals, but unfortunately dropped three of the four games they played Thursday night.
The Vikings lost game one, 25-10; Came back to win the second game, 25-22; Then dropped the final two games by scores of 25-19 and 25-13.

Tuesday night, the IKM-Manning varsity volleyball team played two teams, one of which secured their first win of the season. That victory came against the Coon Rapids-Bayard Crusaders, winning the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-14.
“It is always great to get a win under our belt,” said Head Coach McKaylie Croghan. “The girls played really well together last night. I was very proud of them.”

Sports often come down to doing the little things correctly, and so much comes down to every possession and every serve. That was certainly the case for the HCHS varsity volleyball team as the Cyclones took three of four matches against the Shenandoah Fillies Tuesday night.

Thursday at home, the HCHS varsity volleyball team went up against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs and won all three games to even its overall record to 3-3.
However, they received some unfortunate news that one of their seniors, Lauren McLaughlin, is out for the remainder of the season due to tearing her ACL last weekend during a match against the Underwood Eagles.

Running is a sport of discipline and having the desire to push yourself outside your limits. It’s not for everyone, but those who pursue it are in a select group of people, regardless of age, who can compete at high levels and use those skills to be better in life. That certainly proved to be the case Thursday for one particular school.

Tuesday, the cross country teams of both the AHSTW Vikings and the IKM-Manning Wolves participated in the Logan Magnolia Cross Country Meet. Overall, it was a good day for both schools, but the Wolves stood out with seven medalists.

That proved to be the case for the AHSTW Vikings on Friday night as they opened up their season against the IKM-Manning Wolves winning 32-0.

Thursday’s battle of top ranked between Class 4A No. 1 Council Bluffs Lewis Central and Class 3A No. 1 Harlan – both defending state champions in their respective classes – was no different.

The HCHS varsity volleyball team looked to be in midseason form as they battled the Carroll Tigers at home Tuesday night during a scrimmage. Despite not keeping score, head coach Elle Crees was still pleased with the results she saw.
