The HCHS varsity softball team took on the Glenwood Rams in a doubleheader on their home turf and split the series with them, dropping the first game 5-0, but coming back to win the second game 9-8.
In game one, freshman pitcher Allison Koontz of the Rams pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out four Cyclone batters.

Coming into the game, the HCHS varsity baseball team was riding a 3-game losing streak, but that changed when junior outfielder Stephen Leinen launched a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning and put his team ahead for good in game one of a doubleheader as the Cyclones cruised to a 7-3 victory over the Glenwood Rams.

It was a rough weekend for the HCHS varsity baseball team as they got shutout twice losing 1-0 to the Sergeant Bluff-Laton Warriors and losing 3-0 to the Carlisle Wildcats.
In the first game, the Cyclones were unable to get on base via a hit, but sophomore outfielder Cade Sears got on board with a walk. Senior Aidan Sieperda of the Warriors pitched a complete game shutout and struck out seven Cyclone batters.

Thursday at home, the HCHS varsity softball team welcomed the St. Albert Saintes into town for a doubleheader. They were victorious winning the first game, 3-2, and taking the second game, 4-2.
In game one, junior Regan Kramer’s bat came alive as she had three hits with two runs driven in. But there was no bigger moment in the game than when she had a walk-off base hit to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning for her team.

The rain was coming down, but that didn’t stop the HCHS varsity baseball team from being a force to reckon with as they cruised to a 9-1 victory in game one of their doubleheader behind starting pitcher Braydon Ernst over the St. Albert Falcons.

Wednesday night at home, the HCHS varsity softball team welcomed the Underwood Eagles to their field and dismantled them, 8-2.
“It was nice to get a win, but it was nicer to see us put some runs on the board,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer. “We needed that confidence booster.”

Saturday night at the Shelby County Speedway, the racing season got underway as hundreds of fans came down to watch races take place.
“Every person that I got feedback from, which happens to be a lot of drivers, they were all very excited about the track, they love the pit area,” said Race Director Doug Batz.
Batz did emphasize that while the night went well, there are many things to work on as the season progresses.

Going into the top of the seventh inning, the HCHS varsity softball team was locked in a scoreless tie with the Kuemper Catholic Knights.
That changed when sophomore Kaylie Diercksen put the Knights up by three with a bases clearing double over the head of junior outfielder Madison Kjergaard who crashed into the fence attempting to make a catch.

The Kuemper Catholic Knights rolled into town Monday night to play the HCHS varsity baseball team, but were silenced by senior pitcher Alex Monson, who struck out five batters and pitched a complete game shutout as the Cyclones went on to win, 5-0.

Sometimes dreams do come true. Senior Aidan Hall’s dream came true when he was offered a scholarship to play football for Iowa College, the school he’s always rooted for.
“Playing for Iowa really means the world to me,” Hall said. “It felt really good to commit to Iowa because it was my dream school and I’ve always wanted to play for them.”

Over the weekend, the Exira varsity softball team played three games in a tournament in Atlantic losing two of three to the Creston Panthers, 4-2 and losing to the Lewis Central Titans, 7-0. Their lone victory came against the Clarinda Cardinals in which they won 5-3.

Friday in Kimballton, the Exira varsity softball team played a doubleheader against the Whiting Warriors and dominated both games as they won their first game 12-0, and the second game 15-0.

Saturday in Atlantic, the HCHS varsity softball team played two games against the Estherville Lincoln Central Midgets and the Carroll Tigers at a tournament and dropped the first game 7-0, and the second game 11-1.
“Our focus right now is finding the energy each and every night,” said HCHS Head Softball Coach Toshia Kasperbauer. “We have to mentally and physically be ready to play and we were not there on Saturday.”

The HCHS varsity softball team took on the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs Thursday night at home and won, 1-0, behind the shutout arm of senior pitcher Tianna Kasperbauer.
“We’ve been struggling offensively, but we’ve also been struggling defensively,” Kasperbauer said. “I think when we need a run, we get a run, so that’s good for us.”

After a tough loss against the Lewis Central Titans on Wednesday night, the HCHS varsity baseball team bounced back against the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs the following night and won, 5-1.
“This is obviously huge because last night didn’t end the way we wanted it to,” said junior catcher Austin Schumacher. “Tonight felt great.”
