It was a rough day for the Harlan soccer girls as they dropped their game to the Lewis Central Titans 10-0. Head coach Jared Boysen spoke on what he was proud of despite such a tough loss.
“We did a decent job for a while of staying on their feet and not giving them many open looks but they were just too strong and had multiple good scoring opportunities,” Boysen said.

It was a windy night at Merrill Field for the Harlan soccer boys as they cruised to a 6-1 victory over the Tri-Center Trojans. Many boys on the team had a goal, but none more than sophomore Ian Shelton who had three.
“He did a fantastic job,” said Head Soccer Coach Dave Voge. “A lot of times, he will be off-sides, which we really don’t mind that, but this time even with the wind the way it was, he timed his runs really well.”

It was a windy day up at Majestic Hills Golf Course as the Harlan boys battled multiple teams at the Monarch Invitational.
“The wind was blowing between 30-35 mph with gusts over 45 mph at Majestic Hills golf course all day long,” said Head Golf Coach Chad Swanson. “No players in the entire tournament broke 80, which tells you have tough conditions were that day.”

After dropping their last matchup to the Glenwood Rams, the Harlan golf boys played in a three-team contest that included the Treynor Cardinals and the Denison-Schleswig Monarchs. The varsity boys finished with 190 total strokes. One of Harlan’s junior golfers had a strong day out on the course.

On Thursday night, the Cyclones battled the Missouri Valley Lady Reds and shut them out by a final of 2-0. Freshman Ivy Stephens was the star of the game for the Cyclones.
“She had both of our goals tonight as a freshman,” said Head Soccer Coach Jared Boysen. “It helped when some of us like Aubrey and Raegen were struggling to score up top.”

It was another tough day at the courts for the Harlan tennis boys as they lost their fourth consecutive match by a final of 9-0 to the Shenandoah Mustangs. Despite some tough losses, head coach Dillon Stane has seen improvements each day from his players.

On Tuesday night, the Vikings soccer boys played the Tri-Center Trojans at home and were victorious by a final of 4-1. With this win, the Vikings now move to 4-2 overall. Head coach James Johnson acknowledged what still needs to be worked on moving forward.

It was another rough day for the Harlan boys as they lost to the Glenwood Rams at the tennis courts by a final of 9-0. Despite the tough loss, head coach Dillon Stane feels as if the team is improving and becoming more comfortable when playing.
“I thought we had a lot more net play today,” Stane said. “A couple guys seemed to feel more comfortable up at the net, so I was really happy with how they responded today with that.”

On Monday night, the Harlan tennis girls were on the road taking on Kuemper Catholic and were defeated 8-1. The wind was fierce and the temperature was low, however head tennis coach Katie Arentson was pleased with the overall performance.

It was a rough day for the Harlan boys tennis team with fierce winds affecting their performance as they dropped their matchup to Kuemper Catholic 9-0. Head coach Dillon Stane was still proud of their efforts despite a tough day on the courts.
“They played relatively well today,” Stane said. “There was a lot of competitive matches. It’s not going to reflect in the scorebook, but there was a lot of times they were going to deuce.”

CLASS 3A, DISTRICT 6

 CEDAR FALLS -- Prior to the semifinal round of the Iowa high school football playoffs, each participating school was asked to select one teacher and one military veteran to be honored during their team’s game at the UNI-Dome. Harlan Community High School chemistry teacher Jeff J. Fah was selected as the teacher and Neil Ferguson of rural Earling was recognized for his military service on Saturday, November 13.

 ANITA (Nov. 23) -- Cumberland-Anita-Massena opened the game on a 20-8 run and had three players score in double-figures in a 66-37 victory over A-H-S-T-W in Anita Tuesday night. Eva Steffensen led three Cougars in double figures with 16 points.
