Pamela Jo Captain (Gettys) passed away peacefully at her home in Joplin, MO on July 29th 2023. She was no doubt met with love and open arms by her late husband of 44 years, Danny.She was born in Denison,  IA on May 27 1950 to Gene and Marie Gettys. She was raised by Gene and Jan Gettys in Harlan after her mother Marie passed away when Pam was age 7 .

Kenneth Nicholas Blum, 90

 Kenneth Nicholas Blum, son of William and Laurina (Britten) Blum, was born on November 3, 1932, at his family farm near Westphalia, Iowa. He attended St. Bonaface Catholic Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He attended school up until the 8th grade at St. Bonaface and then worked on the family farm. On Feb 11, 1956, Kenny was united in marriage to Doris Kremer of Heggen Germany.

Bernice Stessman Gaul, 98

 Bernice Stessman Gaul, daughter of Alfred and Beatrice (Leuschen) Stessman was born on February 25, 1925 in Panama, Iowa.  She received her sacraments at St. Mary’s and attended school there as well. She attended college at Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, Kansas.On June 18, 1947, she was united in married to Gerry Gaul. They made their home on a farm just outside of Earling.

William John “Bill” Stein, 69

 William John “Bill” Stein was born on July 3, 1954, to Carl and Helen (Leinen) Stein in Portsmouth, Iowa. Known to all as “Bill”, he was the ninth child of the 14 children born to Carl and Helen. Bill grew up on the family farm. As a boy, he attended school at St.

Lois (Hull) Eriksen

Lois Jean Hull was born on July 21,1946, to Harold & Mildred (Darnell) Hull in Harlan, IA. Lois made her home in Florida, dying peacefully on July 4th, 2023, at her daughter’s home in South Daytona Beach.Lois grew up on a farm outside of Jacksonville, IA, and attended Jackson #3 schoolhouse. When living on the farm she did her share of chores and could always be found driving the tractor during hay-making season.

Shirley Mae Baldwin, 87

Shirley Mae Baldwin, daughter of Stoker and Vivian (Lamb) Earlywine was born December 12, 1935 in Logan, Iowa.  She attended country school in Lakeview and Logan, Iowa before graduating as salutatorian from Magnolia School in 1954.Shirley was united in marriage to Howard Beaman.  Three children were born to this union: Daniel, Susan, and Joe.  She was later married to Earl Baldwin.Shirley always planted large gardens, that she canned and froze

Livia “Suzette” Bates-Leal was born to Winston and Jessie (Caldwell) Bates on June 3, 1963 Springfield, MO. She had two siblings, Winston Jr. Bates and Greg Bates.After moving to Harlan in 1980, she met and married Jose Leal. She worked as a waitress for several years before becoming employed by West Central Development Corporations Head Start program.

James “Doc” Musich, 75

Mass of Christian Burial for James “Doc” Musich, 75, of Bedford was held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11 AM at Cummings Family Funeral Home.  Visitation was at the funeral home Friday, June 2, 2023 from 3-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM.  Interment  at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.  Memorials may be directed towards the family to be established in Doc’s honor.

Ronald Joseph Nollen, 83

Ronald Joseph Nollen was born the youngest of seven children, on March 10, 1940 to Michael and Frances (Thielen) Nollen on the family farm two and a half miles west of Defiance. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Catholic faith. Ron attended Defiance High School. He lived and helped on the family farm until he was 19 years old. In 1959, he moved into town.

Todd B. Roecker

I lived a great life! I was born to Orv and Lee Roecker on December 19, 1955. I was born and raised in Harlan, Iowa. I attended St. Michael’s for elementary school and Harlan for junior and senior high. I graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1974 and Dana College in 1978 with a degree in business education. I played on Harlan’s first state championship football team and served as co-captain on Dana College’s team.
