Margaret Mary Petersen was born on June 2, 1954, to Richard and Zita (Rau) Bruck in Manning, Iowa.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa and attended grade school at St. Joseph’s Catholic School.  She graduated from Harlan Community High School with the class of 1972.On August 19, 1972, Margaret was united in marriage to Thomas E. Livia “Suzette” Bates-Leal

Livia “Suzette” Bates-Leal was born to Winston and Jessie (Caldwell) Bates on June 3, 1963 Springfield, MO. She had two siblings, Winston Jr. Bates and Greg Bates.After moving to Harlan in 1980, she met and married Jose Leal. She worked as a waitress for several years before becoming employed by West Central Development Corporations Head Start program.

James “Doc” Musich, 75

Mass of Christian Burial for James “Doc” Musich, 75, of Bedford was held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11 AM at Cummings Family Funeral Home.  Visitation was at the funeral home Friday, June 2, 2023 from 3-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM.  Interment  at Fairview Cemetery in Bedford.  Memorials may be directed towards the family to be established in Doc’s honor.

Ronald Joseph Nollen, 83

Ronald Joseph Nollen was born the youngest of seven children, on March 10, 1940 to Michael and Frances (Thielen) Nollen on the family farm two and a half miles west of Defiance. He was baptized and later confirmed into the Catholic faith. Ron attended Defiance High School. He lived and helped on the family farm until he was 19 years old. In 1959, he moved into town.

Todd B. Roecker

I lived a great life! I was born to Orv and Lee Roecker on December 19, 1955. I was born and raised in Harlan, Iowa. I attended St. Michael’s for elementary school and Harlan for junior and senior high. I graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1974 and Dana College in 1978 with a degree in business education. I played on Harlan’s first state championship football team and served as co-captain on Dana College’s team.

Antony “Tony” Maynard Jensen, 66

Antony “Tony” Maynard Jensen was born on June 22, 1956, in Harlan, Iowa. He was the son of Maynard and Rose Marie (Hansen) Jensen. Tony was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church.  He received his education in Elk Horn, Iowa and was a graduate of the Elk Horn High School Class of 1974.

Nancy Louise Fulmer

Nancy Louise Grabill, the daughter of Garland Samuel and Doris Helen (Holloway) Grabill, was born on December 30, 1947 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa.  She was the youngest of eight children.   Nancy grew up on her parents’ farm north of Fiscus in Audubon County, Iowa.

Wynona Mae (Andersen) Wendt, daughter of Julius Mads and Emma (Jensen) Andersen was born on October 7, 1925, at the family farmhouse in rural Audubon County, IA.

Captain John “Jack” Anthony Weiland

Captain John Anthony Weiland, also known as “Jack,” departed his home and began his final flight on May 23, 2023.Born in Earling, Iowa on September 27, 1936, to John and Sylvia Weiland, his early years were spent on his family farm harvesting corn. In 1957, he married Sharon Wageman.

Donald Michael Springman

Donald Michael Springman was born Feb 9, 1939 to Nick and Anna Springman in Portsmouth, Iowa. He was the youngest of 6 brothers and sisters. He graduated from St Mary’s Catholic School Portsmouth, Iowa. After serving 3 yrs in the United States Army he moved back home to Portsmouth and started farming close to the family farm.

Leo Joseph Hahn, 95

Leo Joseph Hahn was born on June 9, 1927 to Joseph and Dorothy (Mueller) Hahn in Rural Earling, Iowa. Leo was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa, where he remained a lifelong member. He attended grade school and high school at St. Joseph’s School in Earling.   He graduated in 1945. In 1950, Leo enlisted in the United States Army. He drove a fuel truck for two years and was awarded a bronze star in Korea.

Richard F. Leinen “Digger”

Richard F. Leinen (Rich) (Digger) son of Joe and Caroline (Stinn) Leinen was born February 18, 1934 in Portsmouth IA. He was baptized and confirmed in Our Lady of Fatima church in Portsmouth. He graduated from Portsmouth school in 1952.Rich was united in marriage to Alma Kramer on May 4, 1954.

Dixie Kathryn (Johnson) Larson, 96

 Dixie Kathryn (Johnson) Larson was one of 5 daughters born to Carl and Lula (Sheets) Johnson. She was born on January 17, 1927, at her parent’s home in Rural Harlan (Cuppy’s Grove), Iowa. She was delivered by her grandmother, Kathryn Sheets. She attended and graduated from Harlan High School in 1943.
