Rasmussen set to join IGCA Hall

 CEDAR RAPIDS -- IKM-Manning girls basketball head coach Gene Rasmussen will be inducted into the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday night, April 2 at the Sheraton Hotel in Cedar Rapids. Rasmussen is one of six coaches set to join the Hall of Fame, including former Audubon girls coach Frank Howell, now at Cedar Rapids Washington.

Sporrer girls win three events at Early Bird meet

 LAKE CITY -- Payton and Shyanne Sporrer combined to win three running events Tuesday as the IKM-Manning track teams opened the outdoor season at the Chelsey Henkenius Early Bird Co-Ed Meet in Lake City. Team scores were not kept. Payton Sporrer placed first in both the 3,000-meter run (12:07.3) and the 1,500 (5:31.9), while twin sister Shyanne won the 800 in 2:42.7 and placed second in both the 400-meter dash and the 1,500.

Viking pair earn gold at Audubon

 AUDUBON -- Gage Clay and Spencer Symanowicz both earned gold medals for AHSTW to lead the area charge at Tuesday’s Audubon Boys Early Bird Track Meet. No team scores were kept on the day. Clay easily bested a field of 40 sprinters to win the 200-meter dash in 23.75 seconds after placing second in the 100 - just .01 behind Audubon’s Jake Mulford.

Cyclone bowling trio sign with Morningside

 HARLAN -- Three members of the Harlan Community bowling team achieved a program first on Monday, March 21, when Bailey Portwood, Elizabeth Stroud and Josh Grote signed letters of intent to join the bowling squad at Morningside College in Sioux City. All three Cyclone bowlers have been varsity contributors since the program came into existence during their freshmen year in 2012-2013.

Portwood, Langenfeld named second-team All-State bowlers

 HARLAN -- Seven members of the Harlan Community bowling teams received All-State, All-District and/or Academic All-State recognition from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association following the season.All-State: The Cyclones’ All-State bowlers include seniors Bailey Portwood (Class 1-A girls Second Team) and Max Langenfeld (1-A boys Second Team), who were both ranked first out of six individuals on the Second-Team lists.

Juhl earns MVP honors at IBCA Senior All-Star Games

 GRIMES -- Kyle Juhl took MVP honors for the winning boys team, Kyle Wagner was a 3-point contest champion and Jordyn Moser made the all-tournament team as part of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Games held Friday, March 25 at Dallas Center-Grimes. Juhl and Moser (Harlan Community) and Wagner (IKM-Manning) played in two games each at the annual event featuring many of the state’s top senior basketball players.

Four area girls make IGCA All-State teams

 STATE -- The Iowa Girls Coaches Association selected four area players to its 2015-2016 All-State Basketball teams announced earlier this month. The list includes: Harlan Community seniors Taylor Frederick (First Team) and Jordyn Moser (Second Team) in Class 4-A; IKM-Manning sophomore Kia Rasmussen (Third Team) in Class 2-A; and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton sophomore Sophia Peppers (Third Team) in Class 1-A.

Three area coaches recognized
