HARLAN -- Charles and Delores Schaben of Harlan will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on April 14.

    DES MOINES -- Iris Ilarslan and Jason Noon both of Ames exchanged marriage vows on June 27, 2015 in a double ring ceremony at Glen Oaks Country Club in Des Moines.    Parents of the couple are Resit and Hilal Ilarslan, Shelton, CT; and Jon and Cathy Noon, rural Elk Horn.

    AVOCA -- Martha E. McCord, 87, Avoca, died Friday, March 25 at the Avoca Nursing Home in Avoca.    A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.    Survivors include her children Marion McCord of Urbandale, Melinda McCord of Omaha, NE, and Melanie McCord.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca is in charge of arrangements. 

    HARLAN -- Students in the Harlan Community Schools were treated to a program about eagles from Shelby County/DNR Naturalist Christina Roelofs this week.  The eagle in the background is Cassie, a partial amputee most likely due to collision with a train.  The tip of one of her wings was mangled so they had to take it off.  She was found in Cass County, NE.  Roelofs has had her since 2007, and estimates the eagle’s age at probably between 20

    MANNING -- It was a very successful season for the 2015-2016 members of the Quiz Bowl team at IKM-Manning. The members have been meeting Wednesday mornings since the beginning of November. The varsity boys’ team won the Logan-Magnolia competition followed then by the girls’ team placing fourth in the Boyer Valley competition. Then came the conference meet in Logan on March 16. Both varsity teams made it into the Elite Eight round.

WAGONER, OK  ––  James Leo Hansen, the son of Orville A. (Herk) and Irene Bieker Hansen, was born June 2, 1944, in Harlan. He attended school in Harlan, graduating with the Harlan High School class of 1962.    Jim served in the United States Army, spent several years working for Wells Blue Bunny, and 30 years working for the City of Harlan.    June 22, 1966, Jim married Sandra Sawyer, and they made their home in Harlan.

 VERMILLION, S.D. -- Junior Allison Bruck placed first in the 60-meter hurdles and senior Payten Hoegh placed third in the 400-meter dash on Tuesday, highlighting a series of quality performances for the Harlan Community girls at the Bob Prince Early Bird Indoor Invite at the Dakota Dome. Bruck bested a field of 38 individuals in the 60 hurdles, clocking a time of 9.42 seconds in the finals.
