Cyclones rally in the rain, top Glenwood 22-13

   HARLAN (Sept. 11) -- Trailing 13-0 late in the third quarter, the third-ranked Harlan Community football team scored three touchdowns and a safety in a span of seven minutes, 41 seconds to rally past No. 10 Glenwood 22-13 at Merrill Field Friday night.

Alzheimer’s Walk changes to small group format

    HARLAN -- The Alzheimer’s Association® is inviting Harlan area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.    The Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 with an online opening ceremony at 10 a.m.

COVID-19 positivity rate drops

    COUNTY -- Shelby County’s COVID-19 positivity rate has dropped considerably during the last month, according to statistics from the state’s coronavirus website.    On August 5, Shelby County was showing a positivity rate among the highest in Iowa -- 23.59 percent which ranked the county fourth for positive cases.    As of this week, the county’s positivity rate has dropped to 3.8 percent, placing it 90th out of 99 counties in Iowa.

Auditor releases local office candidate list

    COUNTY – Shelby County Auditor and Election Commissioner Mark Maxwell has released a list of all local candidates to appear on the November general election ballot.    This year’s general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
 

City of Shelby seeks titles to properties

    SHELBY – The City of Shelby has filed petitions in Shelby County District Court seeking titles to abandoned property in the community.    Properties at 605 Border St. and 204 Plateau St. are alleged in court documents to be abandoned, vacant and dilapidated, within the mean of Chapter 657A.10(3) of the Code of Iowa.    The city named respondents for the 605 Border St. property to be deed holder Janiece E.

Lawsuit against Shelby County, EMA transferred to Page County

    COUNTY – A former employee’s lawsuit against Shelby County and the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency has been moved to Page County.    A motion for change of venue filed by Jason Wickizer was granted in Shelby County District Court, and the lawsuit is transferred to Page County.    In addition, the court entered an order allowing motion for summary judgment papers be filed under seal at Level 1 security.

New Fire Truck Chassis for Defiance Fire & Rescue

    DEFIANCE – Defiance Fire & Rescue’s recent project to replace the chassis on its tender truck has come to completion.    Treasurer Jared Anastasi said this week that the department replaced the 1995 International single-axle chassis with a 2014 Peterbilt tandem axle with 230 more horsepower for quicker response times.  The tender truck supplies water to fire scenes.    It took about three days to complete the transformation.  Departmen
