Elementary Plan?    Classes outdoors when appropriate.    Specials (music, PE, art) meet in the safest settings.    Will make up missed learning.    Students will primarily remain with their classmates during the day.    Grab-no-go breakfast.    Lunch in an outside space, in classrooms, or in cafeteria with spacing.    To limit traffic flow, students will be given an assigned door for enter/exit.

Remote Learning?    Today, Tuesday, Aug. 4, 4 p.m. is the deadline for parents/guardians to complete the REQUEST FOR VIRTUAL REMOTE LEARNING form as provided to them in registration materials arriving last week.

Walleye Season Soon?

    HARLAN – For the second time in three years, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources will attempt to establish walleye for fishing enthusiasts at Prairie Rose Lake, as part of its stocking program at area lakes.    Back in 2017, fry were put into the lake with hopes that they will survive and thrive at Prairie Rose, but that didn’t happen said Bryan Hayes, fisheries biologist with the Iowa DNR.  They didn’t survive as was hoped he said.

City moves forward with river access plan

    HARLAN – The City of Harlan has approved an agreement with LT Leon Associates, Inc., Des Moines, for the development of plans and specifications regarding a river access project near the Highway 44 bridge of the West Nishnabotna River.    At a cost of $13,000, the civil engineering firm will develop preliminary designs, complete all of the permitting process and develop final construction documents for the project.

Susan Hulsebus enjoys her time with family

    TENNANT -- Susan (Myers) Hulsebus was only three months old in 1964 when her family moved back to Shelby from Texas. Harlan Man Sentenced to Prison for Drug User in Possession of a Firearm Charge

    COUNCIL BLUFFS -- United States Attorney Marc Krickbaum announced July 14 that United States District Court Judge Rebecca Goodgame Ebinger sentenced Blake Edward Cooper, 51, Harlan, to 60 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to drug user in possession of a firearm.    Cooper was ordered to serve a period of supervised release of three years to follow his prison term and pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund.    There
