Positive COVID-19 cases in Harlan Community Schools reported

Unofficially, it’s noted that there have been as many as six cases in total in the district.

County hosts hazardous waste disposal event Saturday

    COUNTY -- The Shelby County Area Solid Waste Agency is sponsoring its annual free cleanup crew event for residents wishing to dispose of household hazardous waste from their homes.      The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9-11 a.m.

County receiving $16,000 for COVID-related election expenses

    COUNTY – Shelby County has applied to receive $16,000 in state funding as reimbursement for COVID-19 pandemic-related election expenses for the November general election.    Shelby County Auditor and Election Commissioner Mark Maxwell said this week that the monies come from the state through the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act.    Maxwell said each county in Iowa is eligible for $

    HARLAN -- Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig made a stop in Harlan Thursday, Sept. 10 as part of his 99-county tour of the state.    Naig (right) visited with Howard Lansman at Nelson Farm Supply about the ag economy and about how COVID-19 is affecting local businesses.    He also learned about Nelson Farm Supply’s expanded location on the east side of Harlan.
