In the bottom of the 3rd inning trailing 3-2, with two outs and two runners on base, Viking Freshman Halle Goodman connected for a base hit, scoring both base runners. The hit gave AHSTW their first lead of the game en route to a 11-3 home victory over the St. Albert Saintes.
“It was nice,” Goodman said. “I’ve been kind of struggling hitting, and just to get on and see my runners go in felt nice, and seeing the lead felt nice.”

The AHSTW varsity softball team returned home Thursday night to play the IKM-Manning Wolves and snapped a 3-game losing streak, winning in grand fashion, 13-1.
“We definitely needed a W,” said Vikings Head Coach Trevor Gipple. “The kids bunted well and they executed what I asked them to do.”

Kylie Powers, a 2023 graduate from IKM-Manning High School and a multi-sport student athlete will continue her golfing career at Wayne State College in Lincoln, Neb.
“It definitely means a lot to me because my sister, Ashley Darling, golfed at Northwest Missouri State and my sister, Emily Powers, is currently golfing at Buena Vista University, so to continue that legacy, it really means a lot,” Powers said.

After losing Tuesday night to the Earlham Cardinals at home 4-2, the Exira-EHK softball team put themselves back in the win column with a 16-4 victory over the Boyer Valley Bulldogs.
It only took four innings with the Spartans offense scoring five runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, six in the bottom of the 2nd and four in the bottom of the 4th.

In the bottom of the 8th inning at Jim Goeser Field, with runners on 1st and 2nd base, Cyclone Junior Cade Sears stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off single to score Landen Kaufman, delivering their 6th win of the season. The Cyclones won 7-6.
“I was just looking for a fastball trying to get the job done for my team,” Sears said. “They got themselves in scoring position and all I did was hit it in the gap.”

The Atlantic Trojan offense scored 12 runs in the top of the 3rd inning, winning their 7th game of the season and handing the Cyclones their 11th loss in 12 games.
Cyclone Senior Jenna Gessert got the ball to start the night. She pitched two scoreless innings, but struggled in the top of the 3rd, only able to collect one out before eighth grader Camryn Goshorn took over.

It took 10 innings of baseball, but the Cyclones were victorious Monday night against the Kuemper Catholic Knights scoring five runs in the top of the 10th inning leading to a 8-4 victory, and their fifth of the season.
It all started with Cyclone Junior Braydon Ernst on the mound. Ernst went eight innings, with six strikeouts and walked one batter with 100 pitches thrown.

The struggles continue for the IKM-Manning Wolves softball team, dropping their fourth consecutive game Monday night at home against the Treynor Cardinals 6-1.
For the Wolves, Junior Ella Richards pitched all seven innings, striking out nine batters.

Wednesday, the HCHS varsity baseball team went on the road to battle the Lewis Central Titans, hoping to extend their win streak to four games, but were unsuccessful dropping the contest 14-4.
The damage occurred when the Titans dropped nine runs in the bottom of the 4th and three runs in the bottom of the 5th.

With the game tied at three in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Senior Viking Logan Akers was hit by a pitch, giving the Vikings its first lead of the night that started a 9-run rally, leading to a 13-3 five inning mercy rule win at home Thursday.
With this win, the Vikings improve their record to 5-2 overall and get back in the win column after a tough 7-1 loss in their previous game against Council Bluffs Jefferson.

The HCHS varsity softball team early season struggles continued Tuesday night at home as they hosted the Creston Panthers in a doubleheader, dropping both games and got outscored 26-2.
“I think right now, they’re really just working on their mental toughness and getting better every single game with that,” said Cyclones Head Coach Brandi Eckles. “I have yet to ever see them give up.”

After being down 7-0 early, the Cyclones fought their way back to an 8-7 victory in game one of their doubleheader Tuesday against the Creston Panthers. Senior Cyclone Cael Goshorn hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the game.
“I was thinking base hit wins it, so first good pitch I get, swing it,” Goshorn said.

Over the weekend, the HCHS trap shooting team had their final meet including several personal bests, a streak Head Coach Jason Paulsen said he hopes will continue at the upcoming state competition in Cedar Falls.

Wednesday night on the road, the HCHS varsity baseball team took on the Sioux City East Black Raiders, dropping that game 10-6.
The damage primarily came in the second and third innings, where the Cyclones gave up a 3 runs and 6 runs the following inning.

The early struggles continue for the HCHS varsity softball team dropping their third consecutive game to open the season against the ADM Tigers via the mercy rule, 10-0.
