    HARLAN -- Lauretta Catherine Kenkel, 85, Harlan, died August 6 at Elm Crest Retirement Community in Harlan.    Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Panama with burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery at Panama.  Visitation is Friday, Aug. 13 from 5-8 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Parish Center.  A rosary will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the parish center.    Kenkel is survived by brothers Fr.

    STORM LAKE -- Larry Phillips, 77, Storm Lake, formerly of Harlan, died July 16 in Storm Lake.    Services will be held Friday, Aug. 27 from 2-5 p.m. at Lake Avenue Lounge in Storm Lake, with a brief memorial service at 2 p.m.

    EARLING -- Duane Albert Finken, 70, Earling, died August 4 at CHI Health - Lakeside.    Services were held Saturday, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation was Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with family greeting friends from noon-2 p.m.

    SHELBY -- Word has been received of the death of Marilyn Jane Evans, 74, Shelby, who died July 30 at her home.    Services will be held Tuesday, August 3 at 7 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home, Avoca. Visitation will be prior to the service from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.

    OMAHA -- Word has been received of the death of Cindy M. Jones, 74, Omaha, who died Thursday, July 29 at her home.    Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church.  Visitation is Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 5:30-7 p.m.

    IRWIN -- Betty Armentrout, 97, Irwin, died July 27 at her home.    Services will be held Friday, July 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Irwin.  Visitation was held Thursday, July 29 from 5-7 p.m.

    BRUSH, CO -- Marilyn Ann Wingert Ford, 58, Brush, CO, died July 17 at East Morgan County Hospital in Brush.    A celebration of life will be held August 5 at 10:30 a.m.

    DELRAY BEACH, FL -- A celebration of life for Linda Larsen, 77, who died November 14, 2020, will be Friday, July 30 at 2 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.    Visitation will start at 1 p.m.

    ATLANTIC -- Helen Ruth Blum, 99, Atlantic, died February 22, 2021 at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.    Services will be held Saturday, July 31 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Earling.    Blum is survived by daughters Marilyn Munchrath of Omaha, NE, Linda (William) Ebbinga of Griswold and Dr.

    HARLAN -- Rocky Lee Barnett, 74, Harlan, died July 23 at Myrtue Medical Center.    Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 27 from 5-7 p.m.

    WALNUT -- Milton Boll, 70, Walnut, died July 19 at Myrtue Medical Center.    Services will be held Friday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at Walnut Community Center with burial in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Hancock.  Family will greet friends Friday from 9-11 a.m.

   Josephine L. Garrison, 67, died July 20 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.    Jodie is survived by children Vicki Garrison and Kelly (Alexis) Garrison; sister, Ann Walker; grandchildren, Brett, Blake, Kole, Jaiden, Tegan, Charleigh, Preastyn, Rayley and Kalyx; great grandson, Braxtyn; niece, Cris Jensen; nephews, Mike, Kenny and Sean Jensen; lifelong friend, Jeri Sinele; and many friends.    Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m.

 PERSIA -- Max Frank Handbury, 73, Persia, died July 15 at his residence. Services were held Monday, July 19 at St. Mary Our Lady Fatima in Portsmouth with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Portsmouth. A visitation was held Sunday, July 18, at St.

Dick was born September 7, 1939 in Morris, Minnesota to Robert and Irene Cairney.  They moved a few years later and he was raised in Portsmouth, Iowa.  In his childhood, he loved to trap mink, but mostly got muskrat. He also loved sports, especially baseball and basketball.  When a pro baseball scout asked him if his 38 oz. bat was too big, he said, “No one has been able to throw one by me yet.”  He had two offers to play in the St.
