HARLAN -- With regional play just around the corner, the Harlan Community girls basketball team was about to hit the reset button on its season anyway this past weekend. Lewis Central just made sure the slate got wiped a little bit cleaner than anyone planned. Rallying from 11 points down in the third quarter, the Titans connected for five three-pointers during a game-changing 18-5 run Friday night and held the Cyclones to just one made field

 MANNING -- IKM-Manning made quick work of its first-round girls’ regional foe on Saturday night, using a big third quarter to pull away from Woodward-Granger for a 59-30 win. The Wolves led just 25-18 at the half before outscoring the Hawks 21-7 in the third and 13-5 in the fourth. Kia Rasmussen led IKM-M (16-5 overall) with 20 points, six assists and four steals while Shauna Reitan had 11 points and seven rebounds.

 SIOUX CITY -- The Harlan Community girls overcame a sluggish offensive game Thursday night to win 46-30 at Sioux City East. The Cyclones shot just 35.6 percent from the field but held the Black Raiders to 23 percent shooting and only three fourth-quarter points. 

 LOGAN -- The IKM-Manning girls finished the regular season with a signature road win Thursday night, completing a sweep of Logan-Magnolia, 57-48. The Wolves also beat the Panthers by nine (53-44) on January 12 in Manning. With each team having one Western Iowa Conference game cancelled due to weather, IKM-Manning (15-5 overall) tied for third place in the WIC standings at 12-5 while Lo-Ma (16-4) placed second at 13-4.

 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- The Harlan Community boys basketball team lost for just the third time all season Friday night, falling 64-51 at Lewis Central. The game did not count in the Hawkeye Ten standings. Kyle Juhl scored 31 points in defeat for the Cyclones (16-3), while Chad Moran scored 26 for the Titans (9-9). See Friday’s News-Advertiser for more details.

 TREYNOR -- IKM-Manning avenged an earlier home loss to Treynor and handed the Cardinals their first defeat of the season on Friday, February 5, holding off a big rally to win 68-67. The 8th-ranked (1-A) Wolves led 20-7 after one quarter and 37-17 late in the second, but the 3rd-ranked (2-A) Cardinals chipped away.

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team will need to win just two home games to return to Wells Fargo Arena and defend its back-to-back Class 4-A state championships. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union last week released its regional pairings for Class 4-A.

    PORTSMOUTH -- The family of Alice Rau is planning a card shower in honor of her 80th birthday on February 25.
