SHENANDOAH (May 10) -- Josie Knudson placed eighth in the number one singles bracket and the doubles team of Grace Coenen and Erica Rust also picked up a victory in No. 2 doubles as the Harlan Community girls tennis team competed at Monday’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament in Shenandoah. Knudson started the day with an 8-5 win over Libby Ehlers of Shenandoah before losing her next three matches by scores of 2-8, 5-8 and 1-8.

 HARLAN (May 10) -- The Harlan Community boys tennis team finished the regular season with a 9-0 sweep of Council Bluffs Thomas Jefferson here Monday, wrapping up dual play with an overall record of 3-9. Brock Bruns, Mitchell Rueschenberg and Keyton Francis all won 10-0 decisions in singles play, as did the doubles team of Bruns and Rueschenberg.  DENISON -- Harlan Community seniors Brock Bruns and Mitchell Rueschenberg combined to place second in the number one doubles bracket and earned all seven Cyclone team points at the Hawkeye Ten Conference Boys Tennis Tournament held May 4 in Denison. Denison-Schleswig, led by No. 2 doubles champs Isaac Leinen and Wyatt Johnson, won the team title with 27 points, followed by Kuemper Catholic (22) and St. Albert (18).

 CARROLL (May 6) -- Temperatures remained on the cool side, but the performances at Thursday night’s Hawkeye Ten Conference Co-Ed Track Meet sure made it look and feel a lot more like May. The Harlan Community girls placed second out of 11 teams at Carroll Athletic Stadium while the HCHS boys finished fourth.

 HARLAN (May 7) -- Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln broke a 1-1 tie with two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half here Friday and beat Harlan Community 3-1 in boys soccer action at Merrill Field. The Lynx’s fourth straight win improved their record to 6-6 overall while HCHS dropped to 2-11 on the year. The Cyclones finished with twice as many shots as AL (18-9) and three more shots on goal (9-6) but came up empty on several strong

 HARLAN (May 6) -- The Harlan Community girls soccer team won its second straight match here Thursday night, beating Creston 5-1 to improve to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in the Hawkeye Ten. Darbie Argotsinger scored the Cyclones’ first goal in the ninth minute. Makayla Burchett and Raegen Wicks added two goals apiece as HCHS built a 5-0 lead just seven minutes into the second half.

 HARLAN (May 4) -- Freshman Darbie Argotsinger’s third and fourth goals of the game gave the Harlan Community girls soccer team some welcome breathing room Tuesday night as the Cyclones finished off Denison-Schleswig 5-2 to snap a three-game losing skid. HCHS had struggled for offense in a 4-1 loss at St. Albert Monday as well as a 2-0 defeat at Atlantic last Friday, but scored in the first minute vs.

 GRISWOLD (May 3) -- From beginning to end, the Harlan Community girls track squad put together a highlight reel of big-time performances in Monday night’s Atlantic Trojan Co-Ed Relays at Griswold. The final tally saw the Cyclones win four relays and eight total gold medals, score 25 times in all 19 events and finish with 148.5 points to outlast Glenwood (134) and Atlantic (124) for the girls’ team title. The HCHS boys competed with only a par

 AUDUBON (May 4) -- Seniors Holly Hoepner of AHSTW and Quentin Dreyer of IKM-Manning both won two gold medals Tuesday night to highlight area performances at the Western Iowa Conference Co-Ed Track Meet in Audubon. Hoepner placed first in her two signature events, winning the 100-meter hurdles in 16.25 seconds and the 400 hurdles in 1:10.11.

 HARLAN (April 30) -- Ian Shelton and Ashton Lyon both scored hat tricks as the Harlan Community boys soccer team took control in the opening minute and never looked back Friday at Merrill Field, dominating Atlantic 8-0 on Senior Night. It was just what the doctor ordered for the Cyclones, who lost several close matches in April and will now take a 2-10 overall record and 1-4 Hawkeye Ten Conference mark into a new month.

 HARLAN (April 29) -- The Harlan Community boys golf team picked up its second dual win of the year on Thursday, carding a season-best nine-hole score of 186 to edge Clarinda by four strokes at the Harlan Golf and Country Club. Earlier in the week, HCHS lost by 40 shots at Atlantic, 168-208. HCHS (2-4 overall) counted the scores of runner-up medalist Jace Gubbels (44), Drew Bladt (45), Austin Sonderman (46) and Sam Bladt (51) against Clarinda.

 HARLAN (April 30) -- The Harlan Community boys tennis team improved its dual record to 2-8 here Friday with a 7-2 win over Red Oak. Brock Bruns (10-0), Mitchell Rueschenberg (10-1), Stephen Leinen (10-4) and Nolan Blum (10-0) all won convincingly in singles play and the Cyclones also swept all three doubles matches on the day. “What a great win for us!” stated HCHS coach Chad Bruns.

 GUTHRIE CENTER (April 29) -- IKM-Manning and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton combined to win three events here Thursday in the Gonzales-Parrish Co-Ed Track Invitational. Host ACGC swept the team titles in its home meet. The Charger boys scored 190 points, followed by second-place IKM-Manning (160) and Audubon (110).

 MISSOURI VALLEY (April 27) -- Harlan Community won nine events and scored 144 points to easily claim the team title at last Tuesday’s Missouri Valley Lady Red Relays. Treynor won the battle for second with 96 points, followed by Carroll (91), Denison-Schleswig (75.5) and AHSTW in fifth place with 66.5.
