Lady Vikes beat IKM-Manning

 AVOCA (June 8) -- One night after winning 4-2 at Logan-Magnolia, the AHSTW softball team used three big innings to defeat IKM-Manning 13-1 Tuesday in four innings. The Lady Vikes scored five runs in the first, four in the third and four in the fourth to win by the rule. They totaled eight hits and took advantage of 11 walks. Grace Porter led AHSTW at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI.

Cyclones, Spartans both 2-1 in Atlantic Softball Tourney

 ATLANTIC (June 5) -- Harlan Community and Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton both finished with 2-1 records while AHSTW went 0-3 at last Saturday’s Atlantic Softball Tournament. The Cyclones’ two wins on the day came by scores of 11-1 over the Spartans and 11-0 vs. the Lady Vikes. The Spartans and Lady Vikes both faced three Hawkeye Ten opponents.

HCHS thumps Denison for 4-1 H-10 start

 DENISON -- The Harlan Community softball team improved its Hawkeye Ten Conference record to 4-1 on Thursday night with an 11-3 win at Denison-Schleswig. Outside of Denison’s three-run fifth inning, HCHS pitcher Emily Brouse was in full command in a complete game, 10-strikeout performance.

 AMES -- IKM-Manning sophomore Kylie Powers shot two solid rounds in last week’s Class 1A Girls State Golf Tournament, placing 11th out of 77 competitors at the Ames Golf and Country Club. Powers carded a 90 on Tuesday, June 1, and was 13th at the halfway point of the state meet.

Brandt ties for 43rd at 2A State Golf

 FORT DODGE -- IKM-Manning senior Tyler Brandt shot rounds of 85 and 90 at the Class 2A Boys State Golf Tournament held May 27-28 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course near Fort Dodge. Brandt tied for 43rd place with his 36-hole total of 175 strokes, finishing 31 over par. There were 62 golfers in the 2A field. Beckman Catholic sophomore Nathan Offerman was the Class 2A state champion, shooting rounds of 79 and 70 for a first-place 149.

Cyclone girls rally past Denison for Region 2 win

 HARLAN (May 28) -- Second-half goals by juniors Raegen Wicks and Kaia Bieker enabled Harlan Community to rally past Denison-Schleswig 2-1 Friday night in a Class 2A girls soccer regional quarterfinal at Merrill Field. Trailing 1-0 at halftime, HCHS scored goals in the 47th and 58th minutes, taking the lead with 22:25 remaining and holding off a strong challenge from the Monarchs, who also lost in Harlan 5-2 on May 4. Denison closed the season

Bruns picks up a win at 1A State Tennis

Softball: IKM-Manning falls to Tri-Center

 IRWIN (May 27) -- The IKM-Manning softball team was defeated by Tri-Center 12-7 in a Western Iowa Conference game here Thursday night. The Wolves rallied back to tie the score at 3-3 in the first inning and 4-4 in the second, but were unable to recover after T-C plated four runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth. IKM-Manning totaled just four hits on the night but was able to draw 14 walks, including four by Zoey Melton.
