NEVADA -- Services are pending for Dorothy Volkens, 85, Nevada, formerly of Shelby, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Shelby.    Volkens died Sunday, April 10 in Nevada.  She is survived by daughter Jean (Glee) Goodner of Cambridge and son David (Sharon) Volkens of Williamsburg. 

    OAKLAND -- Christopher Burton Summers, 52, Oakland, died April 8 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.    Services will be held Wednesday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation is Tuesday, April 12 from 5-7 p.m.

    PANAMA -- Cole Robert Findlay, 63, Panama, died April 8 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Friday, April 15 at 3 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.  Visitation will be Friday from 1-3 p.m.

    AVOCA -- Norman D. Nelsen, 80, Avoca, formerly of Harlan, died Saturday, April 9 in Avoca.    Services will be held Wednesday, April 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Friends may call Tuesday, April 13 from 3-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m.

    AVOCA -- Charles “Charlie” Carl Christiansen, 70, Avoca, died April 7 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services were held Sunday, April 10 at 1:30 p.m.

    PEORIA, IL -- Patrick “Pat” Vern Finken, 58, Peoria, IL, formerly of Harlan, died Wednesday, Dec. 2 in Peoria.    Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan with interment in the Harlan Cemetery immediately following mass.    Finken’s brothers and sisters will greet family and friends at the church starting at 10:15 a.m. Saturday. 

    DES MOINES -- Msgr. Gerald J. Stessman, 83, Des Moines, died Monday, April 4 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.    Services will be held Monday, April 11 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines with burial in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Earling at approximately 4:30 p.m. following the funeral.  Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m.

    HARLAN -- Richard L. Andersen, 82, Harlan, died Monday, April 4 in Harlan.    Services were held Thursday, April 7 at 11 a.m.

    KIMBALLTON -- Jacqueline Grace Denton, 78, Kimballton, died Saturday, April 2 at her home.    No services are planned at this time.    She is survived by son Denver (Shari) Hansen of Kimballton; daughter Robyn Runkle of Warren, IL; 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three brothers and seven sisters. 

    AVOCA -- Roy Garvin, 69, Avoca, died March 31 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan.    Services will be held Friday, April 8 at 1 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca.  Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

    AVOCA -- Martha E. McCord, 87, Avoca, died Friday, March 25 at the Avoca Nursing Home in Avoca.    A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.    Survivors include her children Marion McCord of Urbandale, Melinda McCord of Omaha, NE, and Melanie McCord.    Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca is in charge of arrangements. 

WAGONER, OK  ––  James Leo Hansen, the son of Orville A. (Herk) and Irene Bieker Hansen, was born June 2, 1944, in Harlan. He attended school in Harlan, graduating with the Harlan High School class of 1962.    Jim served in the United States Army, spent several years working for Wells Blue Bunny, and 30 years working for the City of Harlan.    June 22, 1966, Jim married Sandra Sawyer, and they made their home in Harlan.

    HARLAN -- Marge Helen Hemminger, 72, Harlan, died March 26 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.    Services will be held Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan with burial in the Harlan Cemetery.  Family will greet friends Friday, April 1 from 6-8 p.m.

    HARTFORD -- Gabriel Richard Brown, 32, Hartford, died March 25 in Des Moines.    Services were held Thursday, March 31 at 11 a.m.
