HARLAN — Father Wayne Gubbels, a retired Catholic priest, is Myrtue Medical Center’s (MMC) Hospice Volunteer of the Year.  Father Gubbels has volunteered as a chaplain for MMC Hospice since 2017 and has been a wonderful asset to their patients, families, and hospice team members.  He demonstrates his compassion by how he treats others and how he gives his time so generously.

The Woodbine Tigers started Tuesday’s game with an 8-0 run, en route to a 68-28 victory, handing the Exira-EHK Spartans their first loss of the season.

Approaching the end of the third quarter of Tuesday’s game with the Exira-EHK Spartans girls basketball team trailing by 10, Woodbine Tiger Senior Charlie Pryor launched a shot from 3-point range, giving her team a 41-28 lead heading into the final quarter en route to a 55-39 win, handing the Spartans their first loss.

Tuesday, the HCHS Cyclones girls basketball team was hoping to get their first win, but fell to the St. Albert Saintes 71-58 for their second loss of the season.
“I think we have one huge struggle and it’s turnovers,” said Cyclone Head Coach Zach Klaassen. “The good news is we think it’s fixable. We’re going to get serious about working on it. If we clean those up, we have a chance to win ballgames.”

The Cyclones offense couldn’t match the Treynor Cardinals offense Tuesday as the Cardinals cruised to a 64-50 victory, earning their second win of the season, and handing the Cyclones their first loss.
