The HCHS girls soccer team opened their season Monday night at home with a 4-3 win over the Panorama Panthers.
“Panorama is always a tough team to face, especially early in the season,” said Cyclone Head Coach Jared Boysen. “They usually possess the ball really well and have been tough to score on in the past. They had one of the top goal scorers in the state returning in Morgan Crees that we knew we were going to have to stop.”

Monday at Audubon High School, the AHSTW Vikings and IKM-Manning Wolves girls track teams participated with the Vikings earning a fourth place finish with 71 points and the Wolves coming in seventh place with 52 points.
“Overall it was a great first outdoor meet for the girls,” said Wolves Head Coach Emma Konkler-Petersen. “They showed strong performances in both relays and some individual events.”

HARLAN—The Harlan Community School District Board of Education held their regular board meeting along with two hearings, one for the budget and a second for the 2025-26 calendar, March 24. Board President Greg Bladt called the hearing to order, and a quorum was established with members Jade Albertsen, Greg Bladt, Roger Kenkel, James Reischl, and Pete Sorensen present. Absent members included Al Hazelton and Jennifer Arkfeld.

Earling - Madonna Kramer was born on June 20, 1929 in Earling Iowa to Anton and Johanna (Zimmerman) Koesters. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling where she was baptized, confirmed and attended school.On March 30, 1948 Madonna was united in marriage to Alfons (Mike) Kramer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Harlan - Tammy Kristine Kaltved, 52, died on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. She was born on October 31, 1972, in Missouri Valley, Iowa to David and Kristine (Hatterman) Tremel. She grew up in Woodbine, Iowa, graduating in 1991. Tammy went on to further her education at Dana College, in Blair, Nebraska where she earned her bachelor’s degree in social work.

Harlan - Thomas Lee Feser was born to Jack and Betty (Schneider) Feser on August 8, 1959 in Harlan, Iowa. He attended grade school at St. Peter’s Catholic School in Defiance and went on to graduate from Harlan Community High School with the class of 1978.After high school, Tom worked at Farmland in Denison. He was hospitalized at the age of 21 due to a motorcycle accident. During recovery, he moved home with his mom.

Denison - Elsie Joyce Sievert was born March 19, 1934, in Denison, Iowa to Nora Wardell Sievert and George Sievert.  Elsie attended and graduated from Denison High School in 1952.  Following graduation, Elsie moved to Omaha, NE and worked as a secretary.Elsie married Charles Raymond Book in 1953 and resided in Harlan, Iowa.  Two children were born to this union, Charles Russell and Michelle Lynn.

Mobile, AL - Mrs. Judy Ann Barker, age 82 resident of Mobile, Alabama was welcomed into her heavenly home by her beloved parents Wilfred and Martha Svatora Spencer on Friday, March 14, 2025.Judy is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Jerry M.

The HCHS Cyclones girls soccer team was back in action Friday night for a scrimmage against the AHSTW Vikings. Junior Cyclone Carly Torneten said it felt good to start the season.
“Obviously the wind isn’t what we wanted, but it feels good to get everybody out there and get moving again,” Torneten said. “We have a lot to look forward to this season.”
