SHELBY COUNTY — The Shelby County Community Foundation has awarded $39,531 in grants to local nonprofit organizations and community projects as part of its Fall 2025 grant cycle.

SHELBY COUNTY — The Shelby County Board of Supervisors met Wednesday November 12 and Tuesday, November 18 and canvassed the results of the November 4,2025 City/School Election.
The Supervisors, which consists of Bryce Schaben, Mike Kolbe, and Charles Parkhurst unanimously voted to certify the following results.

City of Earling Mayor – Janice A. Gaul

SHELBY COUNTY — A woman who plead guilty to being an Accessory After the Fact in connection with the death of an Earling resident was sentenced Monday, November 17 in Shelby County District Court.

MANNING- The 2025 class A district 8 all-district teams were announced on Tuesday, with the IKM-Manning Wolves being well represented and senior Ben Ramsey earning offensive MVP of the district. 
Along with Ramsey on the first team offense, the Wolves also had Seniors Davis Rasmussen, Ashton Ahrenholtz, and Jace Starman. 

MANNING- The IKM-Manning Wolves volleyball team had a tremendous turn around this season after going 14-17 overall a season ago to an outstanding 29-9 record this season. 
The Wolves also made their first regional final since 2009 this season on top of numerous other record breaking moments as senior libero Anna Stangl now holds the all time digs record at IKM-Manning with 1,156 total career digs. 

Visitation for Howard Sorensen will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends at Elk Horn Lutheran Church, Elk Horn, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., also at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Private family burial with military honors will be held in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.

Beverly Lucille Caroline Larsen was born March 2, 1929, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Louis and Mary Lucille (Skuldt) Namen. She graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1948. She attended the University of Iowa for one year. She married Richard Peterson, to whom two children, Stephen and Christine, were born. That marriage ended in divorce.

HARLAN — Hansen House is proud to announce the launch of its newest innovation in tenant engagement: all-electric carriages. Owners Rick Hansen and Bill McCarty recently hosted a special event where tenants became the first to experience these modern carriages, marking a significant milestone in the facility’s Life Enrichment Programing.

NATIONWIDE — As of Wednesday, a penny saved is more than just a penny earned — it’s a piece of history.
The United States Mint hosted a ceremonial strike event Nov. 12 at its Philadelphia facility, where U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach struck the final circulating one-cent coin. The event marked the official end of the penny’s 232-year run as a circulating coin.
