Kenneth John “Narv” Schwery, 65, died at his home in Panama on Friday, November 21, 2025. He was born on June 13, 1960, in Harlan, Iowa, to James and Carolyn (Carl) Schwery. He was raised on the family farm outside of Panama, Iowa. After graduating in 1978, Narv worked at the elevator and for Harlan Builders and spent many years doing siding and guttering. Narv raised cattle for the last several years and farmed with his dad.

Lila June Davis, born June 28, 1934 on a farm near Minden, Iowa to John and Mildred A. (Schnepel) Nelson. She graduated from Shelby High School 1952.

Beverly Barbara Kohles was born on November 25, 1942, in Portsmouth, Iowa, to William Huebner and Irene (Wegner) Huebner. She grew up in the Portsmouth and Panama communities and was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s in Panama. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

Dorothy Emma Eckmann, daughter of George and Alma (Meier) Eckmann, was born on January 8, 1924, on the family farm outside Persia. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Persia where she was active in LCW, the ladies auxiliary.
Dorothy farmed with her family outside of Persia and grew a large vegetable and flower garden. She lived on the farm until 1987 when she moved into Persia.

Pamela was born on March 7, 1949, in Jefferson, Iowa, to Cyril “Cy” Butler and Beverly (Gunion) Butler. Pamela began her education in Jefferson, IA. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1968. Following her graduation, she selflessly returned to the family farm to help care for her grandmother until 1970. She was raised in the Catholic faith, having been baptized and confirmed at Jefferson Catholic Church.

HARLAN — A new creative venture has opened its doors in Harlan, bringing rustic charm, reclaimed décor, and one woman’s passion for creativity to the community. Rusty Rubbish, LLC, owned and operated by Bobbie Jo Cruise, officially opened last week November 24 at 805 7th Street — a location many locals will remember as Subs-N-Suds or DADA’s.

 Elk Horn — The Museum of Danish America was honored to welcome Jesper Møller Sørensen, Ambassador of Denmark to the United States, along with his family, his policy advisor, and Grand View University President Rachelle Keck, for a special visit during the Thanksgiving holiday.

HARLAN —Students in the Harlan Community High School Entrepreneurship class are getting a true taste of business ownership as they operate the school-based coffee shop, Cyclone Brew. The class, made up of sophomores, juniors, and seniors, provides hands-on experience in finance, marketing, customer service, and day-to-day business management.
Participating students include:
