Trump carries the county 69.31% to 28.84% for Biden.

THERKILDSEN ACTIVITY CENTER VOTING STEADY TODAY!

It's been a steady stream of voters for the Harlan wards 1-4 today. Shelby County Auditor and Election Commissioner Mark Maxwell says the county has seen 4,300 absentee ballots as of this morning, and turnout today is strong as well. In 2016 there were 3,100 absentee ballots in total.

CONGRATS TO POGGE AND MCGEE WHO MEDALED AT STATE CROSS COUNTRY LAST WEEKEND!

Here are a few photos we snapped at the Class 1A meet in Fort Dodge. Senior Peyton Pogge took 5th place in Class 1A among 152 runners with a time of 19:35. She's also shown with Courtney Sporrer from Lo-Ma who took sixth place with a time of 19:51. The Lo-Ma team took 11th place.

TC senior Brett McGee earned 11th place with a time of 16:57, also among 152 runners. Brother Sean McGee, a sophomore, took 85th with a time of 18:41.

VOTING BRISK IN EARLING!

FIRST TIME VOTER IN IRWIN!

Faith Ericksen of Irwin voted for the first time in a presidential election this morning. Irwin had people waiting in line when the polls opened at 7 a.m. this morning.

GOOD TURNOUT IN ELK HORN!

Very good turnout in Elk Horn so far this morning. Precinct chair Debra Larsen said, "It's been steady from 7-10 a.m. with nonstop voters."

Casting her ballot here is Janine Jordison of Elk Horn, while others are headed in to vote.

Those leaving the Elk Horn Community Center/City Hall encourage everyone to "get out and vote" today.

 

Unopposed races for auditor, sheriff, supervisor

   HARLAN (Oct. 30) -- Down 28-14 early in the third quarter, the Harlan Community football team rose to the challenge once again Friday night at Merrill Field, scoring 28 unanswered points and holding off Carlisle 49-42 in a thrilling Class 3A third round playoff game.

ELECTION DAY IS HERE

    COUNTY -- Shelby County voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 3 to cast ballots in a general election that will determine the country’s direction for the next four years.    At the top of the ballot is the race for the White House, with incumbent Republican President Donald Trump (with running mate VP Mike Pence) being challenged by Democrat and former Vice-President Joe Biden (with VP running mate Kamala Harris).

    COUNTY -- Food banks across the nation have experienced a sharp rise in need and expenses since the onset of the global pandemic of COVID-19.

Absentees outnumber 2016 election

    COUNTY – Absentee ballots received in 2020 at the Shelby County Auditor’s Office have outpaced past presidential election years with still a week to go before election day.    Shelby County Auditor and Election Commissioner Mark Maxwell said as of Friday morning, Oct. 23, the county had received 3,400 completed absentee ballots in the mail.

$40,033 granted to Shelby Co. nonprofits

    COUNTY -- The Shelby County Community Foundation announced Friday, Oct. 23 that grants totaling $40,033 were awarded to Shelby County nonprofit organizations and community projects.    With these grants, the Shelby County Community Foundation has distributed more than $3.3 million in grants and scholarships over the last 23 years.
