 HARLAN (Jan. 25) -- The Harlan Community boys bowling team extended its dual winning streak to six on Thursday with a 104-pin victory vs. Nodaway Valley, 2392-2288, at Cyclone Lanes. HCHS (6-1) also picked up recent wins over Tri-Center, 2796 to 2094, on January 20 at Minden and 2796 to 2732 over OA-BCIG on January 18 at Ida Grove. The Cyclone girls, meanwhile, are 1-6 on the year following a recent stretch of one win and two defeats.

 AVOCA (Jan. 23) -- Thomas Conn led Underwood with 23 points and nine rebounds Tuesday night as the Eagle boys handed AHSTW a 58-50 home loss in Western Iowa Conference action. The Vikings have now lost four of their last five games and fallen to 8-6 overall and 7-6 in the WIC.  DES MOINES – Eight Harlan Community seniors were recently recognized for being named to the Class 3A Iowa Football Coaches Association (IFCA) Academic All-State Team. Two seniors from AHSTW were also honored on the Class 1A team. Seniors from HCHS receiving the honor for 2017 include: Jacob Bartley, Caleb Brouse, Tyler Buman, Patrick Fah, Nick Foss, Dave Hoffmann, Will Hoffmann and CJ Schechinger.

(Jan. 20) -- Shane Chamberlain (21) and Logan Klaassen (19) combined for 40 points last Saturday as the Harlan Community boys basketball team fought off a tough challenge to defeat Kearney Catholic 54-45 in the Nebraska Prep Classic at Ralston Arena. Klaassen knocked down three 3-pointers in the third quarter, including two in the final minute that gave HCHS a 41-32 advantage.
