It took almost two minutes into Monday’s game for anybody to score a basket, but when they did, Woodbine Tiger Senior Charlie Pryor scored the first 11 points including three 3-point shots en route to a 48-20 victory, handing the Vikings their first loss.

Friday night at home, the HCHS girls basketball team played a scrimmage against the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors opening the game with a 22-5 run, ultimately cruising to a 79-36 victory.

Under first year head coach Tony Santisteban, the Exira-EHK Spartans had a successful season going 19-5 overall, making it all the way to the 1A-8 Semifinal, losing 56-49 to the Woodbine Tigers.

The HCHS Cyclones boys basketball season is back in practice mode with their season set to begin early into December, when they will play a game on the road against Shenandoah.
“We’re absolutely looking forward to it,” said Cyclone Head Coach Mitch Osborn. “We want to get everybody healthy. Last year, we were a little snake bitten with the injury bug, and we only played two games where we had a full lineup together the whole year.”

It was a struggle for the AHSTW Vikings boys basketball team last year, ending the season 5-17, but with a majority of the returners back, the Vikings are hoping for a strong season.
“I’m very excited,” said Senior Camden Soukup. “We have a lot of freshman that are starting to move the game, and it should be a fun and new, exciting experience with a new team, so I’m very excited for the season.”

Cyclone Senior Lindsey Sonderman has signed a Letter of Intent to run cross country and track at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls following graduation.
“I’m very excited and grateful for this opportunity,” Sonderman said. “When I went to the official visit there, I had a great time, so I’m excited that that’s what my next four years of school will look like.”

With their second season right around the corner, the HCHS Cyclones girls wrestling team hopes to make some noise and earn some team victories.

After back-to-back seasons in which the Exira-EHK Spartans girls basketball team has reached the Regional Final game, this year they are hoping to get over that hump, and take the next step towards a state tournament appearance.

Last year, under first year head coach Jason McCall, the AHSTW Vikings girls basketball team went 12-9, and the team’s ready to get back to work and make another deep run this season.

After a season in which the HCHS Cyclones girls basketball team achieved their goal of making it to the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena, they are back in action in practice with their first game only weeks away.
“I’m super excited to get this season started,” said Sophomore Avery Manz. “The team has really good chemistry. We get along very well. Practices have been hard, but have been good.”

After a disappointing season in which the IKM-Manning Wolves girls basketball team finished with a 4-18 record, they are ready to return and feel they’re close to turning the corner.
“I’m excited to improve and complete some more of my goals that I have in the two years I have left,” said Junior Anna Stangl. “I feel more prepared and our team is closer and I’m excited to be on the team again.”

IKM-Manning’s Addisyn Bandow, Keagan Eischeid, and Karlee Arp were recognized for their efforts in volleyball this season. Bandow and Eischeid won second team in the Western Iowa All Conference list, while Arp took home honorable mention.
“I’m really proud of the whole team,” said Wolves Head Coach McKaylie Croghan. “Addi, Keagan and Karlee can’t get that recognition without the passers in the back row. They all did great.”

Cyclone Seniors Macy Mueller and Aubrey Schwieso recently took home Hawkeye Ten All Conference awards. Mueller earned second team recognition and Schwieso got honorable mention. Mueller was also awarded Academic All-State.
“The Academic All-State means a lot to me because it’s not easy,” Mueller said. “I’ve put in a lot of work over these past four years and it means a lot to me and my family.”

Cyclone Senior Kayla Anderson has signed a Letter of Intent to play soccer at Northwest Iowa Community College following the conclusion of her high school days.
“Just go in, get better and improve as I keep growing and going to school,” Anderson said is her plan.
With multiple options in front of her, Anderson talked about what led her to choosing Northwest Iowa CC.

The HCHS Cyclones football team knew coming in to their first playoff game on the road, they would face a big test with the 8-1 Algona Bulldogs, and they struggled right away with the Bulldog offense scoring 28 on them in the first quarter, en route to a 49-6 victory ending the Cyclones season.
