The struggles continued for the HCHS volleyball team Tuesday night as they hosted the Red Oak Tigers, losing three straight sets (25-16, 26-24, and 25-13).
“We have to be more consistent,” said Cyclone Head Coach Elle Crees. “We are a good volleyball team that just has to play consistently and finish.”

For the first time since week two, the HCHS Cyclone football team returns home to host the Creston Panthers for homecoming.
“It’s always a neat time,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “The community is always engaged in it. It all comes down to whether or not you can get the job done on Friday night. As an old coach said, ‘homecoming is not a lot of fun unless good things happen on Friday night’, so that’s our job.”

It didn’t take long Friday night for the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors football team to prove why they’re ranked #2, using their running game to dominate the HCHS Cyclones. With less than two minutes into the action, they scored a touchdown en route to a 42-0 victory keeping themselves undefeated and handing the Cyclones their second loss.

Leading the IKM-Manning Wolves 17-16 in set five of Thursday’s home volleyball match, the Missouri Valley Lady Reds handed the Wolves their third consecutive loss.
“We’ve got to make the right decisions at the right times and just do things right,” said Wolves Junior Anna Stangl. “We need to make sure we don’t get down because we got down by ten that set I think it was, and that hurt us a lot.”

HCHS Senior Lindsey Sonderman and the girls cross country team continues to perform strong, with another set of first place finishes at the Storm Lake Invitational Tuesday. Sonderman’s time of 18:34.44 was almost 90 seconds ahead of Addison Liston of Unity Christian with 19:56.44.

Whether it was Exira-EHK, AHSTW, or IKM-Manning, multiple runners performed strong at the AHSTW Invitational in Avoca Tuesday afternoon. For the Wolves, two girls medaled, including Raegan Garrison, who finished 10th with 22:38 and Emily Albertsen, who finished 13th with 23:05.
“I thought Raegan and Emily had solid races tonight,” said Wolves Head Coach Robert Cast.

In set four of Tuesday’s road volleyball match against the Woodbine Tigers, Exira-EHK Spartan Junior Jaelynn Petersen jumped at the net spiking the ball, finishing off the set and helping lead her team to their sixth victory of the season.
This is the Spartans first victory since beating Ar-We-Va in a triangular a week ago. Following that victory, they suffered losses to IKM-Manning and Coon Rapids-Bayard.

For the second consecutive Friday, the 2-1 HCHS Cyclones football team will be on the road again, this time facing off against the undefeated 3-0 Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors.
“They’re a good football team, and they’re well coached,” said Cyclone Head Coach Todd Bladt. “They fly around with the ball defensively. Offensively, they are juggernauts. They come downhill and have really good schemes and really good players.”

The HCHS Cyclones football team responded to their first road test Friday against the Glenwood Rams winning 38-22 and moved to 2-1 on the season.
