HARLAN -- Dave and Angela Voge of Harlan will mark their 25th wedding anniversary on March 2. Their family is requesting a card shower in their honor.     COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Former resident Sally (Gearhart) Bugge of Council Bluffs will celebrate her 80th birthday on March 11.     HARLAN -- Abby Svendsen and Jeffrey White both of Harlan were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan on September 26, 2015. The 2:30 p.m. double ring ceremony was performed by Pastor Jeff Erlemeier.    Parents of the couple are Doug and Lori Svendsen, Harlan; and John and Lynne White, Harlan.

    DENISON -- Fans and cheerleaders turned out in full force to cheer on the Harlan Community Cyclones’ boys basketball team as it took on Carroll Thursday.  The boys lost in overtime to see their season come to an end.

    COUNTY -- Shelby County Emergency Service Officials, including Fire Chiefs, Law Enforcement, and Emergency Management will begin twice weekly updates this week on local fire danger conditions.    Signs placed strategically in each community, primarily at the fire stations will indicate what the fire danger is for any particular day.

    HARLAN – Harlan Community Schools’ students are seeing their class time extend into June this year, due to a combination of the school year beginning later than past years, snow days, and athletic state tournament runs.    HCS Superintendent of Schools Justin Wagner said the district will follow the current calendar, approved by a calendar committee last year, that initially had the final day of the school year for students on May 26.    A

 HARLAN -- In the win-or-go-home world of postseason basketball, sometimes rivalry trumps record. So while Monday night’s Class 3-A boys district semifinal looked like a mismatch on paper, Denison-Schleswig gave Harlan Community all it could handle on the court. The fifth-ranked Cyclones survived in the end, getting 33 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks from Kyle Juhl to hold off the Monarchs, 67-61, in Harlan.
