Sr. Charlita Foxhoven

Sr. Charlita Foxhoven, SSSF, who devoted her religious life to accepting and financial leadership for her congregation, died June 9, 2026 at Sacred Heart in Milwaukee. She was 94.
Born Sept. 26, 1931 in Earling, she professed final vows with the School Sisters of St. Francis on June 21, 1965.

Roger Schwieso

Roger Duane Schwieso was born on September 1, 1935, to Wilbur and Lena (Christensen) Schwieso in Manilla, Iowa. He was one of five children and attended country school in Nishnabotna Township before graduating from Manilla High School with the Class of 1954.

Ralph Franklin Paul, Jr.

Ralph “Frank” Franklin Paul, Jr. was born to Genevieve (Branstiter) and Ralph Franklin Paul on September 5, 1943, in Washington Township, Harrison County, Iowa. He was raised on the family farm southeast of Persia and attended Shelby-Tennant High School, graduating with the Class of 1962.

Olin Meade Pash

Olin Meade Pash was born on May 29, 1927 to Harvey R. and Mamie E. (Field) Pash in Lock Springs, Missouri. He was the youngest of 15 children. While he was an infant, the family moved to Shelby County, Iowa. In 1962 he was baptized and joined Bethel Baptist Church where he was a member until 2005 when he joined First Baptist Church in Harlan.

Edward McLaughlin

Edward Thomas McLaughlin, son of John and Margaret (Gessert) McLaughlin was born on April 8, 1944, in Walnut, Iowa. He was baptized, confirmed and raised in the Catholic Faith. He graduated from Walnut Community School with the class of 1962.

Ramona Case

Ramona Case visitation with family will be held on Wed,.July 8, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Vigil Service beginning at 7 p.m., all at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thurs., July 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Manning by Rev. Shane Deman.  Sacred Heart Choir and Anne Muhlbauer, Organist will provide the music.

Ronald Dean Heese

Ron was born on September 27, 1946, in Harlan, Iowa, and grew up attending Country School before graduating from Irwin-Kirkman High School. From a young age, Ron learned the value of hard work­ - something that stayed with him throughout his life.

Cyclones survive and advance with 2-1 walk-off win over Atlantic to open postseason

HARLAN- The Harlan Community Cyclones baseball team scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to edge Atlantic 2-1 in the opening round of the Class 3A Substate 8 Tournament, earning their fifth consecutive first-round postseason victory under head coach Heath Stein.
Runs were hard to come by as the two teams combined for just six hits in a game dominated by pitching.
