Eugene P. Juhl was born on February 9, 1940, in Carroll, Iowa, to Walter and Violet (Paulsen) Juhl. Eugene spent his entire life on the family farm near Irwin. He began his education at Polk Township Country School, located across the road from his home. When a teacher could not be secured for the country school, he continued his education in Irwin. Eugene graduated from Irwin-Kirkman High School with the Class of 1958.

Delores Mae (Petersen) Nordby was born in Marne, IA on May 20, 1933 to Clinton and Carrie Petersen.
Delores and her brother Bud were raised in Jacksonville, IA. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. She attended country school at Jackson #6 and graduated from Harlan High School. Delores worked at the Harlan Telephone Office during her high school years.

HARLAN – A night of firsts unfolded Thursday at Shelby County Speedway as the Iowa Lottery Shelby County Show-down brought the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing Series to Harlan for the first time.
The event marked the first national touring 410 sprint car race in the history of Shelby County Speedway. 

HARLAN – The Harlan Community Cyclones softball team used a balanced offensive attack, timely hitting and strong pitching performances to sweep the Glenwood Rams in a doubleheader Tuesday evening, winning game one 10-5 be-fore holding off a late rally for an 8-7 victory in game two.
The sweep showcased the depth of the Cyclone lineup as veterans and younger players alike stepped up throughout the night. 

COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Harlan Community C-clones baseball team continued their strong start to the season by going 3-1 during a busy stretch that featured a split with Atlantic, a run-rule victory over Kuemper Catholic and a hard-fought road win over Lewis Central.
Throughout the week, HCHS showcased dominant pitching, opportunistic offense and strong defense while outscoring opponents 34-9.

HARLAN — The Harlan Community softball team bounced back from a difficult night against state-ranked Atlantic by defeating conference rival Kuemper Catholic 15-10 Tuesday at H. Jack Field.
The Cyclones entered the contest after being swept by Atlantic on Monday, falling 8-0 and 3-1, but quickly showed resilience against the Knights despite an early deficit.

HARLAN- After seeing a late comeback fall just short against rival Denison-Schleswig on Thursday night, the Harlan Community Cyclones baseball team responded in impressive fashion Friday, earning an 8-7 victory over Sergeant Bluff-Luton.
The Cyclones showed resilience throughout the two-game stretch, battling until the final out against the Monarchs before turning in an all-around team performance less than 24 hours later.

HARLAN — The Harlan Community boys baseball team opened the season with a 14-4 loss to Sioux City North in a rainy game last Monday night, but rebounded in their home opener last Wednesday with a 2-0 shut-out win over the ADM Tigers for their first victory of the 2026 season.
The Cyclones came out strong against Sioux City North, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
