 COUNCIL BLUFFS -- Harlan Community wrapped up its regular season dual wrestling schedule on Thursday, February 4, with a double dual split at Council Bluffs Lewis Central. The Cyclones easily defeated Abraham Lincoln 66-11 before losing their final Hawkeye Ten dual to Lewis Central, 44-21. HCHS (17-10 overall) finished 6-4 in the conference dual standings for fifth place - one spot higher than last season.

Wolves outlast Vikings

 MANNING -- The IKM-Manning boys basketball team overcame a late deficit to beat AHSTW 66-62 last Thursday night in Western Iowa Conference action.  IDA GROVE -- Five Harlan Community bowlers rolled a season-high series, game or both last Thursday en route to a varsity girl-boy sweep at OA-BCIG (Ida Grove). The Cyclone girls posted a season-best team score in beating the Falcons, 2,463 to 2,093. Elizabeth Stroud led HCHS with a two-game series of 358, including her best single-game score of the season (221).

 OAKLAND -- Scoring 240 points and sending eight wrestlers to the next round, AHSTW earned its first sectional wrestling championship in school history Saturday with a dominant performance at the Class 1-A Sectional Tournament in Oakland. With the team victory, the Vikings advance to Tuesday’s 1-A Regional Dual meet in Sloan. They will face OA-BCIG in the semifinal round at 6:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to face Westwood or Hinton.

 HARLAN -- The winning streak reached a combined nine duals for the Harlan Community boys and girls bowling teams last Thursday as the Cyclones easily swept a home meet against Nodaway Valley. The HCHS boys won their fifth straight dual, 2,756 to 1,907, improving to 5-2 on the season.

Lady Vikes lose a pair

 AVOCA -- The AHSTW girls basketball team came out on the short end of two games last weekend, losing 55-40 at Tri-Center on Friday night and dropping a 52-31 home game vs. Logan-Magnolia on Saturday. The Lady Vikes dropped to 3-13 overall and 3-11 in the Western Iowa Conference.

Vikings top Tri-Center, fall to Logan-Magnolia

 AVOCA -- The AHSTW boys basketball team split a pair of WIC games last weekend, winning 62-58 at Tri-Center Friday night before losing a home game to Logan-Magnolia, 64-57, on Saturday. The Vikings, who were snowed out on Tuesday vs. Griswold, took a 7-8 overall record and 6-8 league mark into Thursday night’s game at IKM-Manning. On Saturday, AHSTW will play Central Decatur in a 5:00 p.m. game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. 

Rams take down HCHS

 HARLAN -- The Harlan Community wrestling team trailed Glenwood by just five points late in the dual before the 10th-ranked (2-A) Rams used a major decision and two pins to pull away for a 46-25 victory in Harlan last Thursday, January 28. Featuring four state-ranked individuals, including No. 1 Matt Malcom (152) and No. 2 Anthony Sherry (170), Glenwood led from start to finish in clinching second place in the Hawkeye Ten dual standings.
