 GLENWOOD (Feb. 13) -- Longtime Harlan Community boys head basketball coach Mitch Osborn took on a new role Wednesday night, serving as an assistant coach for the Cyclone girls in their regional game at Glenwood. Osborn was filling in for Mark Kohorst, who missed the game due to a health matter. Many of the Cyclone players wrote “For Ko” on their arm or hand.

 CARROLL -- A balanced, quality field awaits the Harlan Community boys basketball team as it prepares to compete as the number five seed in Class 3A, Substate 8. The Cyclones, 10-7 overall entering their final two regular season games, will open postseason play Monday night (Feb. 18) in Carroll, facing fourth-seeded Winterset (13-6) at 6:30 p.m.

 ELK HORN (Feb. 13) -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton girls basketball team defeated Glidden-Ralston 61-51 in a Class 1A, Region 8 quarterfinal game Wednesday night in Elk Horn. The Spartans improved to 17-5 overall and will now play at 14th-ranked Westwood (18-4) in a 7:00 p.m. regional semifinal Friday night (Feb. 15).

 COUNCIL BLUFFS (Feb. 8) -- The Harlan Community girls basketball team wrapped up regular-season play with a Hawkeye Ten split late last week, beating Atlantic 56-51 in Harlan February 7 and losing at Lewis Central 55-39 on Friday, February 8.

 ELK HORN -- The Exira-Elk Horn-Kimballton boys basketball team opened postseason play Thursday night (Feb. 14) ranked seventh in Class 1A with a 19-2 overall record. The Spartans hosted Boyer Valley at 8:00 p.m.

 DES MOINES (Feb. 14) -- Four Harlan Community wrestlers and three from AHSTW have qualified for the 2019 State Wrestling Tournament February 14-16 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. In a change this year, the state has used a formula to seed the top eight wrestlers in each state tourney bracket.
