Cyclones show promise in 5-1 loss to Treynor Monday night at Merrill Field

HARLAN – The Harlan Community boys soccer team opened their season Monday night against the Treynor Cardinals, a program that has had the Cy-clones’ number in recent years. 
That trend continued, as HCHS dropped its sixth straight contest to Treynor with a 5-1 loss.
Despite the result, the Cyclones showed encouraging signs on both ends of the field but were unable to overcome key moments against a strong Treynor squad.

Cyclone boys run well in Carroll Early Bird, highlighted by 4x200 relay win

CARROLL — The Harlan Community boys track and field team opened its outdoor season at the Carroll Co-ed Early Bird meet, battling cold temperatures and strong winds on the way to a fourth-place team finish.
Despite the tough conditions, head coach Sam Brummer was pleased with how his team handled the elements in their first meet of the season.“I think it was a good starting spot for us,” Brummer said. 

HCHS girls soccer looks to improve off last season with new coaching staff

HARLAN — The Harlan Community Cyclone girls soccer team finished last season with a 9-9-1 record and is looking to build on that success with a new coaching staff leading the way.
Chelsey Buman takes over the Cyclone program. A 2009 HCHS alum, Buman played in the program and has spent years coaching local youth soccer through AYSO.

AMES — The IKM-Manning boys track and field team competed with a limited lineup last Friday at the Class 1A portion of the 2026 IATC Indoor Champion-ships, but still delivered an impressive fourth-place team finish against a strong field.
Entry into the meet is based on qualifying times from the previous season, limiting the number of competitors and making the Wolves’ performance even more notable.

IKM-Manning Boys finish best W-L season since 2019

MANNING — The IKM-Manning boys basketball team finished the 2025-26 season with a 14-9 over-all record and a 9-7 mark in Western Iowa Conference play, securing the program’s best win-loss finish since the 2019 season when the Wolves went 14-8 overall.
