Marlis Jean Patten, 84

Marlis Jean Patten was born on July 13, 1938, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Viola Herbst. She attended school at Harlan Community Schools. In 1955 Marlis was united in marriage to Duane Patten. They were the parents of six children: Steve, Larry, Garry, Ronnie, Danny, and Jane. Marlis spent many years as a stay-at-home mom raising her children. She then worked at the holiday inn and was famous for her pies.

Don Mathiesen, 79

Donald Mathiesen was born on June 27, 1943 to Virgil & and Kathryn Mathiesen in Harlan, la. He grew up and attended school in Harlan graduating with the class of 1961. After graduation Don enlisted in the Marine Corp and went to California to begin his adult life.Don married Tomi Kuba and 3 children were born to this union. Daughter Kim (Sean) Gallagher, and sons Michael (Jodie) Mathiesen, and Christopher Mathiesen.

LaVern Eugene Holtmyer, 85

LaVern Eugene Holtmyer, son of Vernon and Mary (Rasmussen) Holtmyer was born September 23, 1937 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.He lived on a farm in Pilot Grove Township, Montgomery County, Iowa.  When approximately four years old, the old farm house burnt down due to a lightning strike and his parents lost everything.Vern attended Pilot Grove country school for a couple of years before it was closed and then went to school in Elliot

Carolyn Rose Oldenburg, 84

Carolyn Rose Oldenburg, daughter of Wilbur and Mildred (Schearer) Saemisch was born December 14, 1938 in Elliott, Iowa.  She attended Montgomery County Country School and graduated from Walnut High School in 1957.On June 7, 1958, Carolyn was united in marriage to Dean Oldenburg in Avoca, Iowa.  Together they worked at Dean’s Texaco for 25 years and she also worked at Farm Bureau.  She helped take care of Lester and Olive Sorensen, they adopted

Mary (Arentson) Nichols Olsen, 89, formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away at Accura Healthcare in Marshalltown, Iowa, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.Mary Evelyn was born to Eddie and Alice (Peterson) Arentson on February 7, 1934, at home in Shelby County, Iowa, near Harlan.

Mia Lin Schwieso

Miss Mia- Born July 2nd, 2009 in Harlan, Iowa. To Ann and Chris Schwieso, big sister Aubrey and little sister Kendall Schwieso.  As a toddler you could already see her silly spirit and unforgettable dimples brighten every room. She had the sweetest voice that can still be heard in the hearts of those that love her. She constantly looked up to her big sister and was always looking out for Kendall in all that they did.

Betty Lucille (Becker) Stamp, 89

 Betty Lucille Becker was born to Herbert William Becker and Esther Amelia (Davis) Becker on July 6, 1933 in Melrose, Iowa. Betty lived in Melrose, Iowa until 1945 then moved to her grandparents ( Raymond & Maude Davis) 2 1/2 miles northeast of Persia.  Two years later in 1947 the family moved to the Petersen farm 3 ½ miles north east of Persia on the Harrison - Shelby county line.

John Walter Christensen,85

 John Walter Christensen, the son of Walter and Margaret Christensen, was born on August 25,1937 in Jackson Township, Shelby County. Growing up John enjoyed going fishing with his family and traveling to Minnesota for the annual summer Christensen get-together. He liked being the lone brother to his two sisters, who he loved dearly.

David Franklin Miller

 David Franklin Miller, son of the late Donald E. Miller and Marietta Kobold Miller, was born June 26, 1949 in Harlan, Iowa. He attended grade school at St. Michael’s Catholic Church before going on to graduate from Harlan Community Schools in 1967.The following year he enlisted in the United States Army attending basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington and advanced individual Armor training in Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Earl Boltinghouse, 89

 A beloved hometown heroEarl Boltinghouse passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Arrowhead Senior Living in Osage Beach, Missouri, near the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks. He was born in Lenox, Taylor County, Iowa, to George and Edith Boltinghouse on March 26, 1933. He grew up in Harlan and attended Harlan Community High School, where he developed lifelong friendships and an appreciation for learning.

Charles “Scott” Lyon

Charles “Scott” Lyon was born on October 23, 1977 to Charles and Cheryle Hoden Lyon in Harlan, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1996.Scott found the love of his life when he met Marren Stilwell in 2001. They were united in marriage at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas on January 25, 2003.

Shannon Faye Goeser, 85

Shannon Faye Goeser, daughter of Bill and Bernice (Mescher) Koon, was born on January 31, 1937, in Manning, Iowa. She attended grade school in Manning, Iowa, up until graduation, then went on to attend business school in Omaha, NE.Shannon and her high school sweetheart, Peter Michael Goeser, united in marriage in 1959. They were married for 37 years until he sadly passed away in 1996.

Mervin Meredith Coffman, 71

Mervin Meredith Coffman, son of Melvin and Maxine (Stoner) Coffman, was born on October 27, 1951, in Atlantic, Iowa. After graduating from Shelby-Tennant Consolidated School, he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War.

Stephen Shane Miller, 55

Stephen Shane Miller was born August 10, 1967 in Reedsport, OR to Loretta Hafen and Stan Miller.

Mila Rie Crees

Our sweet Mila Rie Crees was born on January 8th, 2023. She was a perfect 3lbs 5oz and 17 inches long.She was born with a rare condition and because of this she had a challenging road ahead. She fought hard through many procedures and showed us her amazing strength and grace.On January 10th she went peacefully to heaven in our arms.

Richard “Dick Burton Joy, 89
