Sen. Ernst recognizes Sunset Scoops as Small Business of the Week
HARLAN — U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee, stopped by Sunset Scoops in Harlan on Monday evening to honor them with the Small Business of the Week award.
Throughout the 119th Congress, Chair Ernst plans to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties.
“Sunset Scoops is a sweet spot for folks, offering banana splits, sundaes, root beer floats, and their best-selling ice cream nachos,” said Ernst. “Open past sunset, this family-run small business is adding flavor to downtown Harlan scoop by scoop, giving families and community members a place to enjoy a sweet treat together.”
Founded in April 2025 by Tina and Jeremy Schechinger, the business fulfills Tina’s lifelong dream of owning an ice cream shop.
