Pair of wins to close busy week for Lady Vikes
AVOCA - The AHSTW Lady VIkes had a busy end to their pre-Christmas schedule with four recent games.
The result was a 2-2 record in four games with two losses to state ranked teams and two straight wins over conference foes to end December.
The wins were over Missouri Valley 35-33 and Logan-Magnolia 72-39.
The wins set the Lady Vikes record at 5-4 and evened their WIC record at 3-3.
On Monday, December 15, the Lady Vikes played host to Class 2A No. 8 AC/GC out of the West Central Activities Conference.
The Chargers showed why they are highly ranked, racing to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter on their way to a 29-15 halftime lead.
The Chargers put the game away in the third quarter with a 24-8 run on their way to a 64-32 win.
Camdyn Richter and Meranda Gruber led the Chargers in scoring with 15 and 13 points.
Addison Carroll led AHSTW in scoring with 12 points and rebounding with 5.
Less than 24 hours after playing the ranked Chargers, the Lady Vikes welcomed in their second straight ranked 2A foe, No. 13 Riverside.
The WIC conference game would be the first of two meetings this year and this contest went to the Bull-dogs by a score of 48-32.
A 15-8 first quarter was just enough distance for AHSTW to overcome.
Riverside led 26-19 at halftime and 36-24 after three quarters.
The win was the fifth straight for Riverside after a loss at 1A top ranked Council Bluffs St. Albert in November.

It was the second straight close game between the two schools.
The Lady Vikes needed a big fourth quarter in the game to pull out the road win.
Missouri Valley’s defense came to play in the first half and AHSTW’s offense was ice cold as the Lady Reds led 11-3 after the first quarter and 26-8 at half-time.
A low scoring third quarter saw AHSTW win 6-2 to cut the Missouri Valley lead to 28-14 going to the final quarter.
In the final quarter the Lady Vikes put it all together using a 21-5 run to capture the win.
Addison Carroll scored 17 points, had 7 steals, 6 re-bounds, and 2 blocked shots and Bella Lamp added 7 points in the win.
Missouri Valley did not have a double figure scorer and was led by Tylee Koyle’s 8 points.
The Lady Vikes went to the holiday break with a 72-39 win over Logan-Magnolia at home on Monday, December 22.
AHSTW led 19-14 after the first quarter and 38-20 at halftime.
A 23-10 run in the third quarter put the game away and was too much for the Panthers to overcome.
The Panthers are still looking for their first win of the year.
Addison Carroll led AHSTW in scoring with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
Bella Lamp scored 14 points, had 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists.
Ava Paulsen and Clara Pace each scored 8 points.
