Wolves outlast East Sac County

MANNING -- Jared Johnson’s 57-yard touchdown pass to Nick Halbur broke a fourth-quarter tie and proved to be the game-winning score Friday night as IKM-Manning opened the football season with a 20-14 non-district win over East Sac County.
It was the second straight year that the Wolves and Raiders played a highly-competitive game in Week 1. Last season, IKM-M prevailed 7-6 in overtime. This time, there was scoring in regulation as the two teams traded touchdowns throughout the night.
The Wolves scored first on Cody Chapman’s two-yard run midway through the first quarter, but the PAT was no good. East Sac took its only lead later in the quarter when Sam Scott found Nathan Kreft for a 15-yard touchdown pass and the extra point was good.
IKM-Manning tight end Ben Wegner, who finished with six receptions for 148 yards, hauled in a 68-yard TD catch from Johnson in the second quarter, followed by a two-point conversion pass that put the Wolves up 14-7 at the half.
