Vikings eliminated by Treynor

“Not many outside of our program would have had us winning ten games, we knew what we were capable of and really laid it out there every time we took the field.” -James Johnson, Vikings Head Soccer Coach

It wasn’t going to be easy taking on the 15-2 Treynor Cardinals on their field, but following their seniors, the AHSTW soccer team thought they had a good chance. Unfortunately, they came up short and they lost 8-2 in the playoff battle.

“It's always difficult this time of year, we know only one team will be happy about how their season ends and that was no different for us,” said Head Soccer Coach James Johnson. “Treynor is a tough team and we played hard.”

During the game, senior Raydden Grobe had both goals for the Vikings. Johnson credited Grobe for his efforts and his growth over his time with AHSTW.

“Raydden is a special talent in everything he does and will finish his soccer career as the third all-time leading scorer at AHSTW (In only three seasons due to COVID in 2020),” he said. “We will miss him and his fellow seniors in Hayden Fischer, Jace Peterson and Ramon Ciurana very much.”

The Vikings finished their season winning 10 games and only losing five after the conclusion of their game against Treynor.

“Not many outside of our program would have had us winning ten games, we knew what we were capable of and really laid it out there every time we took the field,” he said. “These guys played hard all season, no matter the opponent and as a coach, that's all you can ask for.”

Despite an early exit from the playoffs, Johnson is highly optimistic about what the future of the program holds.

“Most of the returners will have two years of quality experience and I fully expect that to carry over to wins next year,” he said. “The season is barely over and we already have some summer camps and leagues planned, they are excited to get to work for next year.”
