Tri-Center soccer girls end Lady Vikes’ season, 7-0

NEOLA -- If the AHSTW girls soccer program is able to get to a higher level over the next few years, they may look back at the 2016 season as a key turning point.
Featuring a lineup heavily reliant on freshmen and sophomores, the Lady Vikes took some small historic steps this spring as they posted the most wins (five) in the program’s four-year existence and also earned their first postseason victory last Tuesday against Riverside.
The season ended Friday night with a 7-0 loss at 9th-ranked Tri-Center in a Class 1-A, Region 2 semifinal, but not for a lack of effort by the Lady Vikes. In a match delayed more than one hour by a heavy thunderstorm, T-C was simply too athletic and gifted between the lines as six girls combined for seven goals.
The 12-4 Trojans advanced to Monday’s regional final in which they hosted 11th-rated Underwood (13-2) with a state berth on the line. AHSTW finished their season at 5-8 overall.
