Treynor netters sweep IKM-M in hard-fought match

MANNING -- The IKM-Manning volleyball team wasn’t really all that far away from sweeping the 12th-rated team in Class 2-A Thursday night, but instead finished on the short end of a 3-0 decision, falling 21-25, 24-26, 21-25 to Treynor in Western Iowa Conference action.
All three sets were tightly contested throughout, each featuring a 20-20 tie. In sets one and three, the Cardinals scored five of the last six points to pull away. In set two, the Wolves fell behind 23-20, then fought back to force two ties before Treynor got a kill by Kayla Chapman and an ace serve to close things out.
Two nights after rallying from a two-set deficit to win at Missouri Valley, IKM-Manning suffered its first WIC loss and dropped to 4-1 in conference play and 13-6 overall. The Cardinals are also 4-1 in the WIC (tied for second place behind Tri-Center) and improved to 17-4 overall.
Wolves’ coach Kathy Lage felt that Treynor’s blocking and digging ability was a key difference overall. The Cardinals finished with 11 total blocks compared to just one for IKM-M.
