Treynor hands Viking boys first defeat, 73-50

 AVOCA (Jan. 7) -- AHSTW’s impressive unbeaten streak to start the season came to an end here Tuesday night at the hands of second-ranked (2A) Treynor.
 The Cardinals flustered the Vikings with pressure defense early and raced to a 22-5 lead after one quarter. They extended the margin to 43-17 by halftime and went on to win 73-50, improving to 8-1 overall and 7-0 inside the Western Iowa Conference.
 AHSTW, which shot just 35 percent, dropped to 8-1 overall (6-1 WIC).
 Sophomore Raydden Grobe led the Vikings with 11 points, five rebounds and two assists. Senior Clayton Akers also hit double digits with 10 points, Sam Porter and Joey Cunningham had eight points each and Michael Mantell added five. AHSTW was able to come up with 11 steals on defense, including three by Porter and two each for Brayden Lund, Akers and Cunningham.
 Treynor’s balanced attack was paced by Jack Stogdill (three 3-pointers) and Jack Tiarks with 16 points each.
