Titan girls showcase talent in 10-0 rout of Cyclones
HARLAN -- Hosting one of the top girls soccer teams in the state on Monday, Harlan Community fell behind 4-0 in the opening three minutes and never recovered, losing to Lewis Central 10-0 in a match that ended via the mercy rule with 18 minutes remaining.
The 2nd-ranked (Class 2-A) Titans reached 10 goals for the fifth time on the year, improving to 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the Hawkeye Ten. LC possessed the ball about 90 percent of the match and was constantly on the attack, showcasing great athleticism, passing and shot-making ability against the outmatched Cyclones, who fell to 2-11 overall and 1-5 inside the conference.
Underwood 5, HCHS 1
UNDERWOOD -- Hailey James scored four goals for Underwood as the Eagle girls topped Harlan Community 5-1 last Friday (May 13).
Facing a wind disadvantage in the first half, HCHS fell behind 3-0 and tallied its only goal in the 38th minute when Haley Arkfeld scored unassisted.
Underwood, which scored first on a penalty kick by Brooke Cooper, outshot the Cyclones 30-5 overall and 18-4 on goal. Arkfeld had four of Harlan’s shots and Lexi Hoffmann collected 13 saves.
